Question Importing SWF from another webpage onto mine?!

Greetings All,

I have a SWF on a website which I am licensed to use on my website. Bad news is, I do not have the actual file itself just this website address to which the file is at.

The file is an SWF file.

The website address is like (example)
http://www.websitename.com/content/swf/movie-demo.swf

I want this file to be played on my website but I do not know the tools or options which can be used in WebPlus X5 as I am relitevly new to the software.

Is there any way for me to be able to import the file?

I have tried using the 'Insert Video' option, the following appears -

File " is an empty file.
WebPlus does not accept zero-length files.

I looked at the 'Insert Flash' option but I cannot see a option to use a URL / external SWF file like I have.

If anyone is able to provide me with a glimmer of hope or any suggestions to how this is done I would be most appreciated!

Many Thanks

Have you tried saving the said web page? That might give you the Flash file, might not.

What is the URL where the SWF file resides?

Hi

Create an iframe and set it to display the full url of the swf file. That may work

or

download the swf file from the website onto your computer and then use Insert > Media > Flash and browse to the location of the swf on your computer.

@ TomR,
I have tried to save / open the website in WebPlus itself to see if I can generate anything from it with no such luck.

The website for the file is
http://www.livedrive.com/content/swf/iphone-demo.swf

Thank you for your prompt reply.

@ MJH
I do not know of this 'iframe' you have stated, are you able to provide me with more details.

Also, I didn't know you could download SWF from wesbites, do you know of any utilities which can provide this?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

This works.

Go to Insert > WebObject > Framed Document > select Internet page on the left > enter the full url on the right.

position the iframe on the page and resize it.

Preview Page in Browser.

Try copying and pasting the following snippet to the body of the page:

Code:
        <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.livedrive.com/content/swf/iphone-demo.swf" width="500px" height="400px">
          <param name="src" value="http://www.livedrive.com/content/swf/iphone-demo.swf" >
          <param name="autoStart" value="0">

          <param name="width" value="500px">
          <param name="height" value="400px">

          alt : <a href="http://www.livedrive.com/content/swf/iphone-demo.swf">iphone-demo.swf</a>
        </object>

The only thing I can grab is small file, not the embedded clip.

http://itineris.webplus.net/flashintro

Asking Livedrive for the SWF file would be easier, it doesn't display well at the current size.

It displays just fine for me in an iframe sized at 400 x 500

If you are using Firefox just go to the page linked to, then go to File>Save Page As... and you can save the SWF file straight to your desktop.

I see what you mean. I notice that when you hit play there is a reload of the URL in the address bar almost as if there is two parts of the SWF file.

Anyhow the code I posted above will play it fine at whichever size you want it and no need for an iframe.

Thanks,
Copy all the above code, then got to WP and select Insert>Web Object>HTML and in the dialog box that opens press Paste to body. Then drag out a box 500px wide and 400px high. You will only see the video in preview mode.

Demo in the attached file. If you want to just click on the fragment box and copy and paste it to your own page.

Alter the width values to 270px:

Code:
            <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.livedrive.com/content/swf/iphone-demo.swf" width="270px" height="400px">

              <param name="src" value="http://www.livedrive.com/content/swf/iphone-demo.swf" >
              <param name="autoStart" value="0">

              <param name="width" value="270px">
              <param name="height" value="400px">

              alt : <a href="http://www.livedrive.com/content/swf/iphone-demo.swf">iphone-demo.swf</a>
            </object>
