Exclamation Update Announcement (12.0.4)

Dear All.

Serif (Europe) Ltd. is announcing the release of an update for the WebPlus X4 (build number 12.0.4.031).

The main purpose of the build is to allow the new format PhotoPlus X4 documents to be inserted into WebPlus X4 and resolve issues discovered after the release of WebPlus X4 12.0.3, for which we apologise. A list of the changes/fixes in this update is provided below. Some are phrased in the negative from our database, but are nevertheless fixed.

  • Fixed Flash banners not displaying correctly within the program with Flash Player version 10.1
  • PhotoPlus X4 documents can now be inserted as images into WebPlus X4, as well as all previous PhotoPlus X3 and below files.
  • Fixed and updated the Google Analytics feature so that it is compatible with the new version of Google Analytics and more resilient to future changes made to the service.
  • Fixed: A file name that is exactly 6 characters long opens as untitled
  • Fix locked UI after FTP upload.
  • Fix crash in frame setup dialog.
  • Cloned page now appears in correct position in webtree
  • Fixed RedEye tool on dragged rectangle.
  • Remove non-functioning 'Create Object Style' buttons
  • Fixed gallery objects not saving
  • Fixed: Filter Effects > Drop Shadow angles are inconsistent
  • Fixed: Text Line colour cannot be set on untyped text at caret position
  • Cope with 'missing' embedded resources
  • Avoid crash for flash navbar preview when no active page
  • Fixed Invalid hyperlink to site page showing error message
  • Fixed problem setting base url in site properties
  • Fixed: Flash Navbars fail WPx4 Site Checker z-order test & Fix does not work.
  • Fix crash for ThemeGraphic breadcrumb navbar.

It also includes the changes and fixes in the 12.0.3 update and all earlier updates.

We would recommend that ALL users of WebPlus X4 English, French or German download and install the appropriate file. To get the language appropriate file Serif recommend that updating should be done within the program, by using the "Check for update from web" option in the Help Menu. This will always get any available update for your version of Serif software (CD or download) and install it too. The downloads page www.serif.com/downloads.asp has the English version file also, which for the English version is 29.1 MB.

To work out if you need this update choose "About WebPlus" in the help menu and if the version number is 12.0.3.029 or less and you are running the English, French or German version then you need this update. Helpfully the software checks for updates the first time it runs, so for those yet to install a CD, the latest update will be found on first use if needed.

English Version Technical Info:

File name: WEBPLUS1033_12.0.4.031_AND_BonusContent_Patch-Setup.exe

Size: 29.1 MB (30,569,736 bytes)
Digital Signature: Confirmed
Sig Date/Time: 08 September 2010 12:17:52
MD5: BB7883E961D7C5BE98E3D91C8AEAAA03
Removable: Yes.

Please report any problems updating WebPlus X4 in this thread. Please report any problems using WebPlus X4 in a new thread.

Default Missing initial install drive issue still present in 12,04

I see the missing original install drive issue still remains. If you installed from a removable drive which is no longer available the install fails when it can't find the drive as it did in 12.0x.

Thought this annoyance would have been addressed by now as it was complained of often enough in the past.

So I will have to find a USB stick and make it drive G: etc.etc.

No wonder folk get nervous of updating. Those who haven't met this before will likely be as baffled as I was the first time round.

Could we have the redundant and seemingly pointless code that looks for a previous install drive even if it contains garbage as far as X4 is concerned, removed in the next incarnation of X4.

The dummy USB drive worked again so at least I got it installed!

I agree that this is annoying, but unfortunately this is a basic windows installer issue, and AFAIK not in our control (we have not found a way round it). We are not deliberately searching drives, we are calling standard windows installer functions and they are bringing up the error, sorry.

Third time lucky, took the advice given earlier and stuck a USB stick in to create a temporary F: drive, installed with no problems

I have just updated to the new patch and it has totally messed up Web Plus. It open docs and then crashes. I run Windows 7 and have not had any issues until the Patch. I think it also corrupts the files when opening. Make sure you back up your data before trying this patch.

I have now uninstalled the patch and everything works fine. The files were not corrupted. I will keep an eye open for when you have a patch to fix this patch.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Could you please send me one of your docs that would cause WebPlus to crash when opening it so I can investigate this further? Assuming your file is quite large, you can send it to me using the free service at www.yousendit.com and my email address swoodhouse@serif.com

Thank you for the file. I can reproduce the crash and I have reported this to be investigated further as a priority. I will let you know what I hear back from the developers.

Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

Update: The crash is being triggered by the cu3er.swf object on your master pages. We are continuing to investigate why the crash occurs, but in the meantime you could disable Flash Previews in WebPlus so that you can work on this site with the new patch. Tools > Options > Layout > Preview Flash objects.

If you are happier working without the patch for the time being, that's fine. I will let you know when I hear more.

I also have this problem. I have not tried the workaround and will probably wait until this problem is fixed. However I should note that I have never had a problem like this with any software instal and have been using a PC for over 15 years. (I currently use Windows XP) I am therefore surprised that you blame Windows for this problem.

No problems with the installation (download version) but my antivirus (Panda 2011) blocked a script (I think it was a .bat file)....
Does that mean that I missed some of the files?
If I understand it correctly the installation finished and then the program tried to unpack / install some files, probably the resources bonus and then I get the message from Panda...

Hello Flohri

I think the German/French patch usually follows the English.

Perhaps Patrick will drop in over the weekend and reply.

Default Re: Update Announcement (12.0.4)

The patch is a combination of 2 patches, one for the Program install to get it to 12.0.4 and one for the registration bonus content pack. This registration bonus content pack patch was already included in the 12.0.2 and 12.0.3 patch. It mainly helps the particle flash navigation bar work with WebPlus 12.0.2, 12.0.3 or 12.0.4.

So if you installed 12.0.2 or 12.0.3 then you already probably have this bonus patch installed. OR if you do not have the WebPlus X4 Bonus content pack installed then you do not need it. Finally if you do not use the Flash particle navigation bar then you do not need it either.

Hope this is clear enough.
