Default Help with the end bit

Hi does anyone know how to end my movie. For example, if i start with 2 hours of footage, when i have edited it it is 1 hour. However when i record it to a dvd it still record all the way to 2 hours ( the last hour is black screen) this takes ages. i don't know how to tell it to stop recording after the movie is finish in teh timeline mode - without it still going to the end of the original timeline.
Thank sfor all your help on here already..

Hello Aaron, The movies I am editing are very short, just a minute or so, but I am having exactly the same problem with the end frame. When I have exported them (in my case, to a file on my computer as type .mov) the movies run on a few frames, showing just a black screen. Is there anyone out there who can tell us how to set the last frame to where it should be; that is, the last frame of visible footage, please?
Best regards,
Alison (AliSpark)

That should not be happening. Are you sure you don't have a small clip at around the 2 hour mark? If you hit the End button on your keyboard the time indicator should jump to the end of your project. If there are left-over objects this should help to find them.

Hi, About the end button: The end button is not on the keyboard, it is on the screen in the Video Preview window. It is to the right of the play, stop and next frame buttons. I have done that with my movies and I see no undeleted clips causing the problem with my movie... ?? (I only want my video to finish a frame sooner so it doesn't cut out to black screen).

Unless you have a very non-standard keyboard, you should have 'Insert', 'Delete', 'Home', 'End', 'Page Up' and 'Page Down' keys. On a full-size keyboard they are usually in a separate block of six, and if you have a numeric keypad they should be duplicated there too (for use with 'Num Lock' toggled off).

You may be correct in your case, although I haven't seen any keyboard without an End key for many years. On notebook computers you might have to press the Function key along with a dual-purpose key.

Where does the pointer go when you click on End? If it's beyond the end of the clips you want try dragging the cursor from the end to the end of the last clip and pressing Delete.

I can believe anything: Today I tried a cheap netbook in a shop:

All went well until I tried to type a "p". Apparently this version does not provide a working "p" key.

Ha ha, yes that's true! But I did not mean those ones! I meant the 'button' on the screen in MoviePlus x3, in the Video Preview window. As I said, it is to the right of the play, stop and next frame buttons. Pressing the End button on the keyboard won't do it! Made me try it though! Alison

Oh, wow! Maybe I've got a key that doesn't work! The Home key works fine; I use that one a lot. I don't think I've ever had to use the End key on the keyboard before. It's just as well that there is a 'go to end' button on the Video Preview window!
Doesn't solve my problem of not being able to set the end frame in the movie to one frame back though...

Check not only your video tracks but also your audio tracks in case they go on past your desired end.

On one of the movies (where it 'over-ran' and finishes on a frame that is empty), there is no audio at all for the final few seconds of the movie as there is just a jpg. So definitely no audio tracks going past the desired end. It is a mystery.
Is there no way to just SET the last frame where I want it?

Simple: On any track, you can select that track on the timeline, move the time marker to where you want that track to end, and click on the "end" icon... or whatever it is called. (Some software calls this the "out point").

As usual, there is also a keyboard shortcut for this.

When you click on go to end, or press end on the keyboard, the video preview screen will be black, that is normal because the current position marker or cursor is now at the start of the void after the last frame.

To demonstrate this, start a new project, put a single clip or a static jpg photo at the start of the time line and set it's duration to exactly 5 frames.

If you go to the very start of this short "video", you will have the first frame visible on the preview screen, and the counter shows 0:00:00/00. Now advance one frame at a time. When frame 2 is showing, the counter shows 0:00:00/01. When frame 3 is showing the counter shows 0:00:00/02. When frame 4 is showing the counter shows 0:00:00/03 and when the last frame 5 is showing the counter shows 0:00:00/04. If you go to the end of the short video, at which point you have a black preview screen, the counter will show 0:00:00/05.

Hope that doesn't just confuse the issue.

1. Go to the end
2. Press the left arrow on your keyboard to go one frame back. The caret or timeline marker should now be one frame back
3. Track by track select any sources that reach this point and press "o" on your keyboard to trim them at that point

Alternatively, and easier when you've done 2 above click on marker and set selection end. Then when you go to export tick the box that says "export selected range". If by chance you are using MVP5 and not X3 the procedure is different and come back for instructions.

Thanks. That's "o" for "Out Point."

I'm relieved to hear from you, not remembering how close you are to Christchurch NZ. I do hope that you and your friends are OK.
