Default CPU usage

MPX3 is a bad resource eater even when nothing is apparently happening.

When I start a in-process project and do nothing, my CPU resource meter jumps to over 60% and stays there. If I close the project, the CPU drops to somewhere around 30% When I close MPX3, the CPU drops to around 10%.

I don't understand what MPX3 is doing to use so much CPU resource in each case.

When I export/render to a file, the MPX3 usage averages about 95% and sometimes higher. I can understand that rendering eats lots of CPU cycles.

But what's going on when MPX3 is apparently idle?

If you have added video material to the timeline, it may be creating the audio waveform.

Naz, I think you are right. It's time for me to get a processor upgrade. Know a cheap source of a Phenom X4 64-bit 3 GHz CPU?

If your budget can stretch I'd go for a hexacore (6) from overclockers.co.uk

X6
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=6&subcat=1328

X4
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CP-244-AM

X4 3.0ghz for £99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=6&subcat=803

They always have really good offers, but its the one place where the price can go UP as well as down

From these answers, I conclude that MPX3 will use all the cores that are present. True? Or do I have set something to make this happen?

Does PagePlus X4 do the same with multicore CPUs?

No idea .. but fwiw, I experience the same thing on PPSE, PhPX3 and PhPX4. CPU usage runs at about 6-7% even when the app is doing nothing, or at least, norhing of benefit to me!

There's some evidence that it's to do with the toolbars. If I hide one or more toolbars, CPU% drops to zero.
