Default Premiere 7 compare

I'll just say that my Adobe Premiere 7 is no longer useable by me and I am looking for a new video editor. I am a long-time (well kinda) user of Serif's Web Plus 4 and am very pleased, so naturally I am interested Serif's Movie Plus 3, or 4 or 5.
If anyone here has experience with PRE 7, would you kindly compare the two.
Also, the differences among Movie Plus 3, 4, 5.

Just to clarify, MoviePlus X3 is the current version. The previous version was MoviePlus 5. The next version will be X5 and is due out next year.

You're entitled to be confused!

Thank ya Mike. Yes, I was confused.
Sure would like for someone to compare MoviePlus X3 features with those of Adobe Premiere Elements 7. Not asking for a quality judgement, just a little analysis so that I would know more about what I would be getting into with MoviePlus X3. As you know, Serif does not offer trial versions.

True, but there is a 30 day money back guarantee.

I use MPx3 and premier elements 8 though to be honest I don't use either much. I had some troubles with movieplusx3 and it remained unpatched for a long time, at that time I preferred the adobe product, now it seems closer, both have bits I can't do as well in the other, but this may be my lack of skill, I on't do manuals on software and never find half the features so I am a bad choice to give comparisons. overall I think elements 8 has a few more features but mpx3 is more comfortable to use

Two reasons why I am considering MoviePlus X3: One is that I have had such good luck with Serif's WebPlus 4. Perhaps, more important is this forum where one can come for expert advice. Almost impossible to get hands-on advice for PRE 7.

Yes you should find plenty of helpful advice here.

I cannot give you a comparison but it might be useful if you could tell us what mainly you would use MVP for.

Mostly, I video radio controlled model airplane events and model airplane product reviews using two Sony VX2000s. My plan is to incorporate those into my website:
www.electricflyermagazine.com

An ocassional wedding.
An ocassional birthday party.

I have edited 11 movies so far using PRE 7.
Most recent shoot was a staged puppet show at an elementary school. More than 100 student puppetiers were involved.
Since I no longer have PRE 7 available, I will probably order MP X3 to edit it. From what I see on the Serif website they are not that much different.
Note: I am not big on special effects, which so often are used just to make the videographer and editor look good. I want to make the video subject look good, not the editor.

I asked the following question in a separate thread with no response, so please forgive me for repeating it here:
I see on this forum that there is a big patch for MP X3. If I order MP X3 will I have to instal this patch, or has it been incorporated into the later versions?

From my experience I would expect MVP to easily handle what you want to do.

As for the patch someone answered this advising that you should let the programme check to see if it needs updating. You also need to be able to connect to the internet for codec unlocking.

Just to clarify, your site has been built with WebPlus X4 (the latest version of the software), not WebPlus 4.

pickey, pickey Ali. All I know is the dam thing works and I love it. I also love all the help that you and mjh gave me in learning it. I'm still only using about 50 % of its capability. I hope I wind up loving MP X3 just as much.

I've nevre tried Premiere Elements but use MPx3 a lot, its the first Movie Editor i've really used and I like it. It not different in usubility that WebPlus X4, i.e. it simple. But like X4 has massive potential to do complex things.

You are certainly right about the forum, reading further down your summing up of what you want to film, I'm sure movie plus is ideal

I have been editing with Adobe Premiere since 1995, V4 through to V6.5 and then changed on to Prem Elements 2, over the last few months I thought I would give MoviePlus x3 a try as my wife uses Serif software and said how good they were.

Since getting used to a slightly different way of going about things, I haven't gone back to Adobe, one or two little things I miss like using Page up or Page down keys to go to previous or next cuts you made on the timeline,
but other than little things like that I like it very very much.

I would say, get the MoviePlus x3 and try it, you have 30 days to get to know it.

It will take you a time to get yourself round it, you won't be able to work so fast as you could before, that might put you off, but persivere with it because the speed comes back as you get used to it.

I haven't been back to Adobe in months now although it's still on the computer.

I've been using Serif software for many years since it first became available.
I've found them supportive and helpful but they do try and sell me more!

I use the latest MoviePlus for editing and I find it difficult to fault except it occasionally crashes when I'm trying to render a video to DVD. I've tried to include a patch and my Windows 7 coughs and refuses.

I save to a file and don't try to burn to disc which I do in another programme.

Well worth the money - I have all the best known video editors and MoviePlus is my first choice.
Although I do find the widescreen setup annoying. It doesn't always work and doesn't always render to widescreen.

Pinnacle's title editing is excellent and Adobe's Aftereffects can produce some very clever picture modifications.

Vegas is a devil to master. I packed in with Premiere several years ago - too many dropped frames.

Regards to all

kingell, you say it occasionally crashes when you try to render to DVD. All of my stuff MUST be burned to DVD. How big of a problem is it? Also, please tell me more about saving to file and using another program to burn your DVD. What program?
Also, you say your Windows 7 coughs and refuses patches. Please tell me more.
I have installed Wiindows 8.

Hi
I've been making videos since the 70s and I can't be bothered when things don't work properly.

I have several PCs and they all white out when I try to render to DVD and the programme reboots and I have to start again.

(Good job I save regularly).

I tried to update with a patch from Serif but it won't load into my XP or Windows 7.

So as usual I found a way round it.

I make the video in MVP and then export to "file". (MVP is an easy accurate editing programme with lots of useful extras.)

Then I go to a DVD burner (ULead DVD factory) and burn the file there creating menus, chapters, overtures etc.

There are several similar programmes free on the net.

Others don't seem to have this problem. It must be my electricity supplier.

Windows 8???????????????

Regards
