Question iTunes help Please

Ok ok ok

We now have an Ipod. But man is the iTunes software bizarre.

I have several albums in it which it imported form the Windows media player and it lists 2 or three tracks under the album art, and then for no good reason is has another album with no art for the next track....which should be in the album with art If this makes sense!

How do I get the software to put songs from the same album into the one album? I am sure it's easy, but it's driving me nuts!

Please help!

Paul

Ok I can search on album name to collate the tracks. But why do I have to?

Grr

I hate Cr$p software - or more accurately, strangely behaving software

The implication would be that many of your tracks are missing any embedded (assuming mp3 files) album art.

Having built up a large chunk of pre-album art mp3's prior to getting an ipod, I found MediaMonkey a very useful tool for adding album art to my mp3 collection. Just make sure that you leave ipod updating to itunes.

You can find them at http://www.mediamonkey.com/. I believe that the basic version is free.

Once running, and with your tracks in it's library, there is a right click option "Auto-Tag from Web" that can be used (by ticking the relevant box) to add the Album Art.

EDIT - Best to Select all the Tracks in your Album before Auto-Tagging, that way they all get the same picture.

Also, sometimes it doesn't always recognise the Album/Artist combination, so you may have to use the Drop Down box at the top of the Auto-Tag window to pick the relevant album.

OK I can now sort of get tunes to be collated by album ALL TOGETHER, however is it me or is the album art sub-system dreadful? Media player seemed to get the art off the web nearly 98% of the time, iTunes is barely hitting 50%. Goodbye yellow brick road for example, I mean, not exactly obscure!

iTunes at my end gets 100% of artwork for purchased / ligit tracks. This said, I don't use coverflow nor do I check the "get artwork" box, I only load it up when I am on housekeeping mode (rarely).
All the stuff I have imported from CDs from say 15+ years ago doesn't contain the (or any) necessary metadata to associate with artwork. Nor will it associate with ripped tunes from 3rd party or eroneous sources. I am not suggesting you have obtained music by inappropriate means, I'm just saying that it tends to work best with stuff from "now". HTH

as for the view in iTunes. I have always felt that if the music was listed in the same way I used to stack my CDs or records then that would be super cool. They have sorted the book library properly on the iPad to resemble a library shelf, I would love to see a 'genie effect' for CDs and a virtual CD rack.
