Serif Digital Scrapbook Artist Patch Announcement (1.5.1)

Dear All.

Serif (Europe) Ltd. has decided to release of a major update for Digital Scrapbook Artist (build number 1.5.1.52). The main purpose of the patch is to add some extra functionality, detailed below. It is very unusual for Serif to add extra functionality to any released application. However it was felt that with some minor additions to this new application that we could have a world class scrapbook program which anyone could use.

The 1.5.0 patch has been previewed on DaisyTrail.com free downloads page for the last few weeks. Some issues were found and addressed, leading to this build 1.5.1.52 and has now been announced here and placed on the updates and patches page.


New Features in 1.5.0

• New Digikit manager (replacing the content pack manager). This will enable you to search all your kits at once using your own keywords (like "Ribbon" for example) and be able to search by category, style or colour. You will also be able to see any items which are available as free downloads or are available to buy from DaisyTrail when you search.
• New Digikit Creator. This will enable you to create your own kits from items you have downloaded from other sites or created yourself. This will include organising items into embellishments, backgrounds, materials, and letters (so if you have an alphabet from another site you can tell DSA what letter is what so you can type in whole titles). Letters can now have origins so they type on a line, with adjustable spacing.
• Create your own intelligent frames (so your photos will snap to fit like frames in DaisyTrail Digikits behave)
• Drag objects into the tabs on the left. If you have created an item that you may want to use many times in your layout you will be able to drag it into the one of the tabs (like embellishments for example) and can then drag it back out as many times as you like.
• Format painter. If you have formatted an object in a particular way (for example applied a shadow to it) and want another object to have exactly the same shadow, you can copy that from one object to another with just a couple of clicks.
• Different functionality of the scissor tool. As many of you have noticed when you use the scissor tool on a material or photo that object behaves differently than it did before you cut it (the photo adjustments and other functionality doesn't work in the same way). This has now been fixed.
• If you want to email a page to someone DSA will automatically convert it into a JPEG or PDF format before you send it.
• New quick shape of a curly edge frame which is very popular in scrapbooking.
• Change the colour of photo brushes (for example stitches) which you couldn't do before.
• New online tab which will give live feeds of new videos or other news from DaisyTrail.
• You can use the graduated fills to tint photos/objects - so a photo could be tinted from blue to red for example.
• Mesh fill transparency now possible.
• Improved Brushes, Effects and Edges.
• Filter effects can be saved to Effects tab

Improvements in 1.5.0


A list of the improvements in this patch are listed below.

• Skinning improved (for example App's maximise icon becomes a restore icon when app is maximised).
• Edges can be applied to rotated bitmaps and text.
• Snapping Grid can optionally draw over all items.
• Can add user effects to new Studio categories.
• Edit Points tool behaviour improved.
• Able to resize text using side handles.
• All transparency functions had "Fill" as their undo hint.
• Photo Adjustments had Undo/Redo string of "adjust image".
• UI tabs 'document tabs' shows scrapbook document name.
• Fill tool works on photos, including gradient fill.

Fixes in 1.5.0


The new build also fixes a few issues found in DSA 1.0.2 for which we apologise. A list of the changes/fixes in this patch are listed below. Some are phrased in the negative from our database, but are nevertheless fixed.

• Brush Edit: Spray Brush Edit opening Repeat brush edit dialogue - corrupts on OK.
• Gradient transparency on an image doesn't transform when image is moved.
• Adjusting transparency on items that have been cut using scissors breaks them.
• Scissor types "Fence" cannot create auto-closed shapes.
• Opening two instances of application produces crash.
• Dragging text causes "serious error" message and can crash.
• File open: .pack crashes app.
• Letter previews are inconsistently sized.
• Document Palette: colours not being added to palette when used on the page.
• Transform tab Rotation field hides the hundreds digit.
• Many copies of the same Photo files can be added to the Content tab.
• Line tab: Custom Dash option for dashed line does nothing.
• Cutout Studio creates alpha edged images with the wrong aspect ratio
• Spray brushes broken when canvas is rotated.
• Adding text corrupting scrapbook view rendering.
• Roughen Tool - effect varies when file reopened.
• Recoloured bitmap lost it's recolour with the eraser tool
• Opening corrupt documents gave the wrong workaround suggestion.
• Replace photo: not working on Frame edit.
• Clipboard formats seem to be shared with DrawPlus X2 but don't paste.
• Paper Textures: doesn't get applied to drawn object.
• Effects Pane - Feather Edge = missing descender on g of edge.
• Cutout Studio: Selecting the "Keep Brush" changes the "Grow Tolerance" check box text to "Back One".
• Cutting an image after applying a colour-based Image Adjustment causes the image to disappear.
• Inserting page can make the Layers Tab out of date
• Roughen Tool makes groups disappear.
• Clicking revert after adding a page causes the app to crash.
• Layers tab not refreshing when changing pages.
• Layout and Background tabs sliders go too far.
• Select a Theme Content Pack name field has no limit on length.
• Resizing text changes the position of the rotation handles from its normal central position.
• Paper textures do not show on objects with inner filter effects.
• White embellishment is hard to see in the embellishment tab.
• CMYK JPG support.
• stop the same item being added to a tab more than once
• Importing some image formats through the Photo tab caused the app to crash.
• Right click context menu - Copy Icon is actually Crop.
• Clicking after applying effect "Glow 1" caused crash
• Changing the transparency of multiple objects with different transparencies has strange results.
• Can't apply a transparency to a line that has a brush style
• Text not visible in a quick shape after using the Roughen tool.
• Effects Pane - Views - No tick to show selected view
• Quickshapes - Quick moon - properties don't update correctly.
• Scanning with WIA = crash.
• The title bar flickers when when you use any feature.
• Applying edge effects to cropped photo does not apply to the uncropped photo.

Fixes in 1.5.1

• JPEG file loading much more stable and faster.
• Thread contention issues in Digikit manager
• Streamed data timeout resolved.

This patch also includes all the issues fixed in the previous DSA patches.

We would recommend that ALL users of Digital Scrapbook Artist download and install this patch. Serif recommend that patching should be done within the program, by using the "Check for update from web" option in the Help Menu. Also The downloads page www.serif.com/downloads.asp has the patch. This exceptionally large patch was needed as so much has changed and improved. The patch for the download Digital Scrapbook Artist is the same as for the CD version.

To work out if you need this patch choose "About Digital Scrapbook Artist" in the help menu and if the version number is 1.0.0.015 or 1.0.1.017 or 1.0.2.024 or 1.5.0.50 (or 1.5.0.51) then you need this patch. This software patch is the only patch you need to apply, no matter what version of software you are currently running. There is no need to uninstall any previous patch before installing this patch. This patch is not removable back to 1.0.2 as so many files and registry entries have changed.
