Default Serif DrawPlus X3 Patch Announcement (10.0.3)

Dear All.
Serif (Europe) Ltd. has decided to release of a patch for DrawPlus X3 (build number 10.0.3.022). The main purpose of the patch is to resolve issues discovered after the mastering of DrawPlus X3 10.0.2, for which we apologise.

A list of the changes/fixes in this patch are listed below. Some are phrased in the negative from our database, but are nevertheless fixed.
  1. WireFrame view mode improved. Press 'F7' or choose 'View'->'Draw Quality', you can now see the wireframe outline of brush strokes and edges when they are applied to bitmaps. Previously it was just a rectangle with a cross through it.
  2. Keyframe Animation doesn't act as expected (and was different to DPX2!) when inserting keyframes. Create a new keyframe animation, draw a red rectangle. Insert a new frame after the current one. Insert another new frame at the end. With the last frame selected, make the rectangle blue and you should be left with 2 frames where the rectangle is red and one where it is blue. In DrawPlus X3 you get 1 red, 1 purple and 1 blue frame. This subtle change actually makes it very difficult to control your animation without explicitly making the objects concrete.
  3. Fix for PDF Layers (which we now support when publishing to Acrobat 6 or greater) not being printable despite the state of the printable flag in the document! It seems that despite the state of this flag, the PDFs output were actually visible but their layers were not printable which meant you could see it on the screen, but pressing 'print' gave you a blank piece of paper!
  4. Always show the 'Estimate Download Time' button on the export dialog rather than only when web objects are visible on the page. This was unnecessarily removed from the new Export Dialog and its return has been requested.
  5. Connector stability improved
  6. Documents with brush strokes would draw more slowly the more CPU cores you have available!?! This has been investigated and resolved and while I was there, I also improved the performance by approximately 25% over DrawPlus X2!
  7. Internal check for valid state of 'HowTo Tab' before attempting to use it!
  8. Fix for long-standing issue with some parts of bitmaps failing to draw in the document when viewed at exactly 100%. Occasionally you would get areas of the image missing entirely!
  9. Fix for Keyframe Animation export to Video bug which caused random frames from later in the movie to appear at different points throughout the movie!
  10. Fix for miscellaneous crash reports relating to text, right-click menus, export dialog and layer object insertion/removal
  11. Fix Keyframe Animation issues with splitting runs where the intermediate frames would generate objects whose states were not carried over from the previous concrete object. This leads to instability and general 'oddness'!
This patch also includes all the issues fixed in the previous DrawPlus X3 patches.

We would recommend that ALL users of DrawPlus X3 download and install this patch. Serif recommend that patching should be done within the program, by using the "Check for update from web" option in the Help Menu. This will always get any available patch for your version of Serif software (CD or download) and install it too. The downloads page www.serif.com/downloads.asp has the patch also, which is ??? MB. The patch for the download DrawPlus X3 is the same as for the CD version.

Helpfully the software checks for updates the first time it runs, so for those yet to install a CD, the latest patch will be found on first use.

To work out if you need this patch choose "About DrawPlus" in the help menu and if the version number is 10.0.0.015 or 10.0.1.019 or 10.0.2.021 then you need this patch. This software patch is the only patch you need to apply, no matter what version of software you are currently running. There is no need to uninstall any previous patch before installing this patch.
