Exclamation Patch Announcement (13.0.6)

Dear All.

Serif (Europe) Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of a patch for PagePlus X3 (build number 13.0.6.026).

The main purpose of the patch is to resolve a number of issues discovered/fixed after the release of PagePlus X3 13.0.5, for which we apologise.

We would recommend that ALL users of PagePlus X3 (English) download and install this patch. To work out if you need this patch choose "About PagePlus X3" in the help menu and if the version number is 13.0.5.024 or less then you need this patch.

Serif recommend that patching should be done within the program, by using the "Check for update from web" option in the Help Menu of PagePlus X3. This will always get any available patch for your version of Serif software (CD or download) and install it too. The downloads page www.serif.com/downloads.asp has the patch also, which is 9.7 MB. The patch for the English download PagePlus X3 is the same as for the English CD version.

A list of the changes/fixes in this patch are listed below, some are phrased in the negative in the database, but are nevertheless fixed ...
  • Text, using styles occasionally acquires bold attribute on Save > Load
  • Use of Ctrl+I to italicize highlighted text in PPX3 does not always work
  • Embedded WMF can't be made linked if original resource is missing
  • PagePlus was putting scheme colours into Serif Metafiles
  • Pansonic lumix codec crashes App when started.
As well as all the issues fixed in the PagePlus X3 13.0.5 patch, and all previous patches. This software patch is the only patch you need to apply, no matter what version of PagePlus X3 you are currently running. There is no need to uninstall any previous patch before installing this patch.

Our German language PagePlus X3 13.0.6 is now on Auto-Update also.

Please report any problems updating PagePlus X3 in this thread.

The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file:

\program\serifthreedu.dll

\program\serifUiGdiLoc.dll

The actual case of the folders/files might be different than above.

I hit the "Retry" button each time the error message appeared, and the installer continued.

When is there going to be a patch to sort out the Manual Duplex printing issue?
Thanks.

As far as I am aware the outstanding issue with duplex printing is that if the printer's duplex setting is changed locally, though 'Properties' from the Print Dialog, rather than globally via Control Panel, PagePlus fails to pick up the change.

However since the workaround is trivial - ie select the value you require from the combo on the Print Dialog itself - I think it is unlikely we will patch for this issue.

If you have a different problem, can you be a bit more specific.

.
It is not trivial if one is doing several batches of many copies. It gives another parameter to set every time print is called. It's bad enough remembering to set collate (printer problem), let alone automatic duplex (PP problem).

Make a mistake - forget either - and watch oodles of waste paper appear. Great when you've paid extra for tinted or special paper.

Will the be a patch to fix the rendering problems when OPENING and existing PDF file?

I use a browser program to Print to PDF to convert web pages to PDF files. The older versions of PagePlus handled these PDF files wonderfully. PPx3 gives me garbage/hash instead text and the pictures are drastically distorted.

Thanks,
Cyn

Hi Cyn,

This is not a problem that I have been previously aware of. Could you please attach an example PDF here so we can investigate?

This document contains embedded CID keyed TrueType fonts. PagePlus X3 doesn't handle these. This is a problem we are working to address in future versions of PagePlus. I don't think there is a significant regression with this document over previous versions of PagePlus.

Cheers, Adam

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for your reply! I have been working on this issue in the Design/PagePlus forum and have identified some issues. Adam's comment about how embedded CID keyed fonts are not currently handled is of great benefit, so thank you Adam!

Since I cannot locate the disks for my previous version, I am not able to tell you which version of PP worked well, nor am I POSITIVE that the "print to pdf" utility that I am using is the same one I used last year. I had to relocate and reinstall all of my freeware programs and Firefox browser add-ons after a computer crash over the Christmas holidays.

I wish I could be more specific with this issue. If/when I am able to present the situation more clearly, I will let you know.

In the meantime, I am able to use Acrobat as an intermediary for the few web pages I have to reclaim. [I lost my local web site back up directory in that crash and it's very tedious to extract text from an html file.]

I now have my copy of WebPlus X2, so I will see if I can get it to manage my web pages so that my problem is totally solved.

Thank you again for your time!

Sincerely,
Cyn
