We would recommend that ALL users of PhotoPlus X2 (English) download and install this patch. To work out if you need this patch choose "About PhotoPlus X2" in the help menu and if the version number is 12.0.2.11 (or less) then you need this patch.

however if the program is trying to download it perhaps there is a German version by now. if not a German version available it shouldn't install

I tried the german patches from the german site:

Hi Simon,

My first suggestion is to uninstall PhotoPlus, reinstall it from your CD or download and then install the latest patch from Help > Check for update

If this still doesn't work, let me know.

What does "Help>About PhotoPlus" say your current version is please?

There are 2 different patches for German PhotoPlus X2.

• one for those who installed with a product key
• one for those who had a non product key install

The reliable way to get the right one is to use "Help>check for updates from the web" which knows the difference.

I have the same problem with my german PhotoPlus X2 12.0.2.11 Update.

When I select "Auf Updates prüfen" (in english: check for updates) an updates is found, it downloads the file "PHOTOPLUS1031_12.0.3.013_Patch-Setup.exe" but fails to install because it can't patch 1 file.

It creates an error-logfile in the directory where the patch file is located:

Fehler 1328. Fehler bei der Anwendung des Patch auf Datei C:\Config.Msi\PTC.tmp. Die Datei wurde wahrscheinlich bereits auf andere Weise aktualisiert und kann von diesem Patch nicht mehr verändert werden. Wenden Sie sich mit Fragen an den Patchhersteller. Systemfehler: -1072807676 === Protokollierung beendet: 20.10.2010 10:18:34 ===

The file "PTC.tmp" is in fact a renamed copy of "PaintPlusLoc.dll" located in the folder "C:\Programme\Serif\PhotoPlus\X2\Program" on my computer.

I compared both files with a Hex Editor and they are 100% identical.
So the german update is unable to update the PaintPlusLoc.dll.

I've attached a few screenshot from different steps of the update process and a copy of my PaintPlusLoc.dll - please unzip both files and next it's an splitted RAR archive. You'll find my original file that couldn't be patched.

Please correct the update so it's possible to install it in a clean way or post an updated "PaintPlusLoc.dll" here so we can replace it ourselves.

Inside the Update File there is a .msp file - I've tried to install this .msp file with logging enabled

C:\PhotoPlusX2-patch-12.0.2.011-12.0.3.013.msp /l*v C:\log.txt

and attached the logfile also to this post.

I've just tried installing the 12.0.3.13 update on top of 12.0.2.11 and it works without a problem for me. I suspect there might be a problem with your install.

Could you uninstall PhotoPlus via Control Panel, then reinstall from your CD/download, then apply the latest update and see if that works?

I've performed all my tests with a clean install of PhotoPlusX2 on top of a clean install of WindowsXP - so I'm 100% sure it has nothing to do with a bad installation or something like that.
If you want I can send you my setup files of the PhotoPlusX2 version I'm using - it's a bundle version from a german magazine "PC Welt 10/2010" - the file on the dvd is named "SerifPhotoPlusX2-Installer.exe" and is 211.570.547 Bytes in Size.
When this file is started, the avanquest installer starts and asks for a password to finish the setup - you get this passwort by registration on this site: http://register.avanquest.com/ABSOFT....cfm?idcgd=491

When this installer finished it's work, there's a new shortcut "Serif PhotoPlus -Installer" on the desktop and this shortcut starts the file "c:\programme\DE-PhPX2-0308-Setup.exe" and this is now the main installation of photoplusx2. This file is 211.044.656 Bytes in size.

@Sarah W: If possible I'd like to send you this file so you can create a working update to 12.0.3 for this setup.

Thank you for all that information, it was very useful! The only version of DE-PhPX2-0308-Setup.exe that I've been able to find here is 199 MB (209,635,960 bytes) which is smaller than the one you've got. I installed that and was able to patch it correctly.

If you could send me a link to down the version of DE-PhPX2-0308-Setup.exe that you've got, that would be a great help in investigating further, thank you.

Thank you very much to nalor for helping me investigate this issue. It appears there is a version of PhotoPlus X2 12.0.2 German from Avanquest that cannot be patched properly by the current 12.0.3 patch. We hope to update the patch soon so that it will work for all German PhotoPlus X2 versions.

Tried the new patch and it installed without any problems

There's only one thing that don't work in my setup: when I try to open the tutorials, I always get the message "error opening ..\xxx\yyyy.pdf" - although the files are there and can be opened without a problem with adobe reader.

I've never used the tutorials before, but as you said this is the major difference between both versions you sent to avanquest, I thought I give it a try
I don't care if you update the patch again to repair the tutorials, but maybe it's important for others... I don't know.
