PhotoPlus X2: Patch Announcement (12.0.3)

Dear All.

Serif (Europe) Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of a patch for PhotoPlus X2 (build number 12.0.3.013).

The main purpose of the patch is to resolve a number of issues discovered/fixed after the release of PhotoPlus X2 12.0.2, including the Vista thumbnail provider which caused WebPlus X2 and PagePlus X3 to crash, for which we apologise.

We would recommend that ALL users of PhotoPlus X2 (English) download and install this patch. To work out if you need this patch choose "About PhotoPlus X2" in the help menu and if the version number is 12.0.2.11 (or less) then you need this patch.



Serif recommend that patching should be done within the program, by using the "Check for update from web" option in the Help Menu of PhotoPlus X2. This will always get any available patch for your version of Serif software (CD or download) and install it too. The downloads page www.serif.com/downloads.asp has the patch also, which is 3.5 MB. The patch for the English download PhotoPlus X2 is the same as for the English CD version.

• Vista thumbnail provider does not crash WebPlus X2/PagePlus X3 using 'Insert>Picture' dialog
• Unusual colourspace profile causing crash
• Wholely transparent images now ignore transparency
• Resource leak in 'File>Open' dialog fixed
• Pansonic lumix codec crashes App when started.

As well as all the issues fixed in previous PhotoPlus X2 patches. This software patch is the only patch you need to apply, no matter what version of PhotoPlus X2 you are currently running. There is no need to uninstall any previous patch before installing this patch.

Our German language PhotoPlus X2 12.0.3 is now on Auto-Update also
Our French language PhotoPlus X2 12.0.3 (Product Key install) is now on Auto-Update also

Please report any problems updating PhotoPlus X2 in this thread.

The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file:

\help\help (maybe 1033 here)\whtopic.js

\help\help1033\topics\adjusing_color_balance.htm

...\choosing_colors.htm

...\creating_and_editing_text/htm

...and several more error messages.

The actual case of the folders/files might be different than above.

I hit the "Retry" button each time the error message appeared, and the installer continued.

The patch installed without problem on my new Vista Machine.

Perhaps your witch has left her broomstick somewhwere and cast a spell.

When I tried to install the patch on a XP computer I got a similar message about insufficient privileges even thought I was logon as an Administrator.

The file concerned was 'choosing colours.htm - or similar

Hi Julian,

Right-click the patch file, choose Properties, at the bottom of the dialog there should be an Unblock button - press that. Now it should install properly.

still unable to install
loged on with Administrator Rights. Downloaded patch. Right clicked - Properties - ticked box saying file had come from other pc - that box no longer appears.

But patch will not install.

Is that the issue - or is it that my current files are some how locked?

Hi Julian,

If the patch finished installing the first time, it's probably failing to install now because you already have the patch.

Run PhotoPlus and go to Help > About - if the version number is 12.0.3 then the patch is already installed.

Should I do an uninstall, reinstall and then straight away look for the patch?

That's a good suggestion, yes. If you're still having a problem installing the patch then please attach a screenshot of the exact error that occurs when you try to install it.

Hi,

A new Serif Photoplus X2 user ... but can't even apply update patch yet!

Tried update, and get the message windows installer is unable to apply patch .... program may be missing ... etc.
I've tried un-installing X2, re-installing with all antivirus stuff switched ogg etc ... same result I am afraid.

I am running XP, and am fully up to date with all XP updates service packs etc. Help, About Photoplus says version is 12.0.1.10.

Can anyone suggest solution.

Thank you for that. Are you downloading the patch from our website or from Help > Check For Updates within the program?

From Help >check for Updates within Photoplus program, although I think I did also try once direct from website download/support pages to same effect.

Hi Tony,

I've done some investigation and I think that there's a problem with one of our PhotoPlus patches. I have temporarily removed this from our update server, but to proove that you've got the same issue that I've discovered, could you please check for updates again and confirm that the software now thinks you have the latest version?

Yes. It now says I have latest version.
The version I have is 12.1.0.10 (original that comes of the installation CD I assume)
I'll check again in a few weeks again to see if a revised patch is then available to apply all those updates you want to roll out to us all!

We have made a new 12.0.3 patch that should work for people who installed the software using a Product Key.

Tony,
try check for updates now, it should find the new patch for you. If this does not work you may need to uninstall/reinstall/patch for success.

Yes all ok. Updated and no need to re-install.
Now have version X2 12,0,3,13.
