Lightbulb CD Audio Capture in MVP5

Idiot Newbie here - I'm trying to capture an audio track from a commercial CD into MVP5. I'm running XP and using the default player in the CD-capture window- (VIA AC'97 Audio (WAVE) - I've tried following the manual, physical and Help-window, but naught audio is captured. It is probably something very simple (It will need to be!). Any Serif-Techie-Users any ideas?

As far as I remember, audio "capture" from CDs in MvP5 required an analogue connection between the CD drive and the sound card.

Many modern PCs don't have such an analogue connection, only a digital one. So, MvP5 can't capture the audio.

However, many other programs, including Windows Media Player can "rip" tracks from CDs: You could "rip" the required tracks, convert them into the required file format and import them into MvP5.

ps. MvPx3 can "rip" audio tracks from CDs, using the usual digital connection.

Maybe also the free Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Caution! I have a camera, and know how to use it!

Sirs - RichardS & JimB: Less than 10 minutes after perusing, digesting and acting upon your advice, the MVP5 project is underway. Is Serif aware of you people? In fact, forget Serif, is the Government aware of you people? It is now that this nation needs you!!

Thank you very much to both of you.

Maybe there's a version that can rip CDs, but not the one I'm using (1.3.5), I think.

I have certainly used version 1.2.6 (the current stable version) to import WAV files off CDs and the current Beta 1.3.6 clams to be able to do the same.

Do you mean wav files from a data CD or cda files from a music CD? I would only consider the latter to be 'ripping'.

If I try to import from a music CD I get the attached error message.

Err! good question Mike, it was a while ago and I cannot remember if it was a propper CD or a copy with the tracks I needed on?. I am at work now so cannot fully check, here we either use Adobie Audition or AVID Newscutter or Adenalin to obtain tracks from music CD's.

Well, either way Audacity is a very good program, especially for freeware. I certainly wouldn't want to put anyone off trying it.
