You better save it as png which is a losless format.

Lightbulb Can't Clone

I've just spent a frustrating hour or two after PhotoPlusX2 let me down badly. I was working on the restoration of an old family photo ( one of those four generations ones) which was recently unearthed. It was an excellent 1900 vintage professional photo but had been badly treated and had serious creasing damage and then had been installed in an album using transparent scotch tape now badly yellowed - you get the picture ?

So I set to, scanned it and was about seven eighths through the resoration when my clone tool stopped functioning. All other tools seemed normal but no clone tool. I had saved my work as an Spp file so closed PhotoPlus and reopened my file confidently expecting things would be normal again. But still no clone tool.

I opened another couple of files in PhotoPlus and found the clone tool working normally - obviously my 4 generation file was corrupted. (it is 7.5Mb so I won't post it here !!)

Has anybody else had tools stop functioning like this ? I have previously had my smudge tool stop working, but it came back after about 10 minutes.

The only way of avoiding redoing all my restoration work was to save the picture as a jpg and reopen a new PhotoPlus doc, but I suspect I have lost some quality by doing this.
Blair.

Hi Kiwi,
I've had this happen to me before; it took me a while to figure out why. It was simply because I had introduced some intermediate layer(s) between my initial cloning done, let's say on the background layer, the initial picture. Any how, when I came back to the proper layer, the clone tool worked very well for sure. I think that may be what is causing your problem.

Branis,
Yes, I should have used a lossless format -

Paul,
You were right, I had created a filled shape layer and a text layer. Trying to clone on a text layer gives you a "banned" sign (circle with diagonal) but not on a shape layer so that's what confused me !!
Thanks.
Blair.
