Lightbulb .swf will not play on the web, but plays locally

I have a major issue! We are a wedding videography business, and we use Flash video on our site to show a showreel of our work.

I have put a flash movie on my site which will play when I view the site on the local drive, but refuses to play when it is on the net.

I've uploaded all the relevant .flv and swf files (I am an IT Technician by trade so I know what I am doing) but this one has me completely stumped!

All we get is the 'control' bar of the swf

If you want to see what I mean, go to endlessmoments.co.uk and click on showreel

I am somewhat annoyed at this, as I was talked into buying X2 by a persistent Serif salesman who assured me that X2 was exactly what I needed for video!!

I am fully patched, and use Firefox and IE7

I am also uploading the files manually using FTP rather than the built in uploader. Always worked fine in WP10!!

There was a time when I thought I knew it all. Now, I'm lucky if I can remember some of it.

Hi Tim

Have a look at this JW mediaplayer http://www.dond.ulmb.com/jwintro.html tutorial on my help site to see if this will do the job for you. It plays FLV files singly or from a playlist.

Hi Tim and anybody else that is having issues with swf files in IE7.

Here's what I think the problem is, it could be a thing called Cross-Domain Protection and is a nasty little feature introduced into IE7 with I think SP2 by you know who.

I had a few swf files myself on a test site and for love nor money I could not get the swf files to show, just a blank page in IE7 but seemed ok in Firefox

A simple work around for this problem is if you add your links to an html document which incorporates your swf file and do not link directly to the swf file itself, or in my case, I added the site which held the swf files into my trusted zone panel in the options of IE7. The swf file then played regardless of whether or not it was within an html page or not.

If I am right, then its a pain in the a** because if you have sites with loads of flash content, I dont know how you are supposed to let ALL your viewers know about the options to choose from to allow the viewing of such files.

For more information and other work arounds such as Registry Key hacks etc, then take a look at this LINK HERE http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/...e7--flash.aspx

The only other thing I've seen on other forum posts about the same issue is a corrupted installation of the flash player itself linked to IE7, some people have posted about removing the player and then re-installing from the Adobe site and this seems to have cleared their problems.

All in all as far as I can make out, it all boils down to the browser itself, but dont quote me, i'm just a mere mortal after all.

I hope this goes someway into explaining some of the problems you maybe experiencing

Hope This Helps ;-)

Problem SOLVED!!

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19439

I had to enable MIME types on my hosting package as it is not turned on by default. I didn't realise I was on a Windows hosting package.

The flash movie now plays perfectly!

So, if you'd like to go take another look

Great site
Your video is perfect ... and produced the way a wedding video ought to be produced
Now ... if I could only solve the same problem on my site
Mick .. perhaps you would translate your suggestion so that a 'dumbo' can know what exactly to do?

Hi Tim

I just went through every page on your site and did not see a video. Where is it?

And, as I commented earlier, I think the text would be easier to read and understand if the lines were shorter. Also, a couple of pages could use a headline.... About Us is one of them.

Nice site.... hope it brings you lots of bookings.

Tim

On your contact page you have left the email link dead to avoid spam... I don't think that works... I have seen other threads by the very knowledgeable and I am sure that if your email address is on the site with or without a hyperlink it can still be harvested.

I have started putting a # instead of a @ in email addresses and advising below to alter it.

Tim (the other one)

EDIT: I think turning the text box containing the email address into a graphic will also hide the address.
