Lightbulb Unable to burn disc

Every time I try to burn a disc, be it VCD or DVD, the programme crashes. Every thing is fine with the programme up until the time I try burn a disc. I also have a Pinnacle studio 9 Plus which I use, with no problems at all. I have downloaded and installed all new patches. Any ideas?

John,
MoviePlus uses a software library called Sonic Authorscript for burning discs.
Your crash reports indicate that the crash is occurring while initialising this library.
Authorscript installs some files in the Windows System32 folder, and at least one of these seems to have been replaced by a newer version on your machine. It's possible that this is the cause of the crash.

You could try the following if you're feeling brave.
(NB. This might break any other disc burning software you have installed)

1. Move the following files to a temporary folder somewhere:
C:WINDOWSsystem32px.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32pxdrv.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32pxmas.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32pxwave.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32PXWMA.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32vxblock.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32Driverspxhelp20.sys

2. Reinstall MoviePlus
3. Try burning a disc again.

Good luck!

John, Jon is suggesting that the files on your PC which MvP uses to burn DVDs have been damaged or replaced by your other software.

ie. That your problems are not caused by a fault in the MvP product itself.

As a first step, you may like to compare your files with the ones shown in the attached screen-shots. They show the files on my WinXP SP2 PC which runs MvP4 and MvP5.

The dates, times & sizes of your files may reveal the differences. (Use these only as a guide.)

In order to view these files, you may have to change the folder view options of your PC.

Thanks for that, I have checked all my files, against those very useful screen dumps you supplied, and within a little they are all pretty much the same with the exception of R8139n51.sys, which is missing. I have searched my computer for it but it is not there. As if you had not guessed, my next question is where can I download one from? I almost feel as if I am making progress. Thanks for you help.

John,

That file is just a driver for my Ethernet card (a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC).

It is nothing to do with MoviePlus - only the files mentioned by Jon are relevant.

It is good that your PC still has those MoviePlus files, and that they are showing the correct files sizes & dates, but there is still a chance that one or more have been damaged.

That is why Jon suggested that you create a new folder, move the original files into that folder, then re-install MoviePlus.

Re-installing MoviePlus should then re-create the correct files.

Alternatively...

Now that you know you PC still has those files, you could contact Serif Tech Support again to ask whether they have any more "guesses" about possible causes.

Finally:

Is your DVD burner perhaps being "monopolised" by a different burning program?

eg. Media Player, iTunes, Nero, etc. etc.

John,
Your files are definitely newer versions than the ones that MoviePlus installed.
This is not necessarily the cause of the problem - both Richard and I have newer versions too. But it's possible that another program has installed a set of PX DLLs that are incompatible with MoviePlus. If this is the case then the steps I suggested earlier should make MoviePlus work.

They won't. The truth is that we still don't know why disc burning fails on some machines and not others. We suspect it may be caused by incompatible Authorscript DLLs in System32, but apart from replacing those DLLs with the originals, we have no idea.
