Lightbulb Unable to run PP9 with XP

I have run PP9 for some time with Win98 with no problem at all.
I upgraded my system to WinXP and had real problems with many programs so had to format my C drive and install from scratch. My programs were on a separate partition and so didn't have to be reinstalled. PP9 ran with no problem at all once XP was installed.
The point of all this is that I have bought a new PC with WinXP installed, but when I try to run PP9 I get the error message "Program not installed properly, uninstall and re-install".
I have tried this many times to no avail.
I have even taken the program to work and tried to install it on my office computer running XP, I get the same message.
Yey the program runs ok on my home computer.
Anyone got any suggestions??

Do you have Norton AV or any other AV programme running, I seem to remember a lot of similar complaints in the early days of PP9 and it was usually down to having programmes running in the background!! especially AV!!

Before trying to install PP 9 on Win XP, are you logged in as an "administrator" with full privleges, or as a user with limited privleges?

I run PP9 and PP10 from XP with no problems.....

Do you get a number with the error? A CRC error maybe? It could be a corrupt CD given that it fails on more than one PC.

Thanks for the comments chaps.

Harry, Yes I do have Norton AV running, I will try it disabled and see what happens but I don't think this is what's causing the problem.
Jim B, I am logged on as administrator with full privileges.
Dave P, No I don't get any error numbers, just the message.
Regarding the corrupt CD, I used a copy of the original CD at first, when this failed I used the original with the same result.
It will install and run on a computer with Win98 ok.
I'm afraid I'm not having a lot of luck.

Lightbulb PP9 and XP

I get the same thing with my XP Pro. The error box is labelled "Registration error" and the text just says" There is a problem with your installation. Please uninstall and reinstall" I have done so to no avail. I have upgraded to SP2 and latest from windows update. Problem still there. I have installed on another (test) PC running XP pro and pretty much the same apps including McAfee Virus Scan and all went o.k. so really at a loss as to what is wrong. Tried it on my wifes XP Home PC, also o.k. If there is any mileage in the fact that my PC is the only one on which I have a registered copy of Drawplus 7 already working fine. Uninstalling PP9 causes DP7 to restore to defaults and portfolio is lost. Come on Serif - -help us out here!
I have attached a .JPG of the error.

Lightbulb Re:PP9 and XP

Are you doing a CLEAN install?

I have DP7, WP9 etc installed and don't have problems. You say it works fine on one PC etc. That does, of course, indicate a localised PC issue.

I'm running XP Home with SP2

Lightbulb Re:PP9 and XP

Yes, clean install. Compared to my test pc, this one started life with DP3. I then installed DP7 and both existed happily. I've had no other problems on the PC. It is virus free and is not used for games etc. The fact that others (above) have had this issue suggests that there is a problem with PP9 but only under specific conditions. What exactly is a "rtegistration error"? Is it to do with product registration or maybe and incorrectly registered .DLL file.?

Lightbulb Re:PP9 and XP

I would suspect the 'Registration error' refers to an incorrectly registered .dll hence the question about the 'Clean Instal'.

Have you tried uninstalling, clearing entries out of the Registry (if you are confident enough to do that) and trying again.

As yoy say, it appears a certain 'recipe' exists where this error appears....

Lightbulb Windows XP and PP9 failing to run

Just following on from the other posts, the problem is on my machine running XP pro.
With my other machine running XP home edition I get no problems other than when I installed XP after formatting the C drive I am being asked to register the other Serif programs installed on my E & D drives.
I am beginning to wonder if the problem of PP9 not running with XP is only when it's installed on XP Pro. If this is the case, then please help Serif, Ive given up trying.

Regards all

Lightbulb Re:Windows XP and PP9 failing to run

Tony,

Several of us are running PP9, or have run it in the past, on XP Pro SP1.

FWIW. Sorry that doesn't help you directly!
