Lightbulb Is Insert/Overwrite Text Mode Gone?

It's 3:30 AM, and I'm sitting here typing away in a PP 9.03 text frame and I need to replace some text with new text, so I reach over and press the "Insert" key to toggle from insert to overwrite mode, and keep typing, only to notice that the new text is being inserted instead of overwriting the old text. Hmmm.

Maybe I missed the Insert key. Press Insert, try typing. Hmmm. Still inserting. Press insert again, type some more. More still inserting. Hmmm. Check the help file for "insert" and "overwrite" and "text", and either I didn't see how to get into overwrite mode, or it isn't there.

Where is text insert/overwrite mode?

Or is it so obvious that I just don't see it at 3:30 AM?

Jim

You are correct, insert toggle is being ignored.

Highlight the text you want to replace and type the new text which will replace what you have highlighted

Hi, Mike.

Yeah, I know that works. But I'm an "old school" keyboardist.

I grew up on the DOS and CP/M versions of WordStar and dBase, et al. When I get to moving right along with my typing, I use the keyboard (shortcut) keys whenever I can, instead of mousing around. 8)

Highlighting requires taking a hand off the keyboard, finding the mouse, positioning the cursor to the start of the text and clicking, then moving the mouse to the end of the text and shift-clicking (or click-hold-drag), then re-"homing" my hand and resume my train of thought and typing.

With insert/delete toggle, it is just a quick press with the right-hand's little finger.

Try using Control Shift Right-cursor to select text.

Or just Shift plus Right- (or Left-)arrow to select single characters instead of whole words. But to answer Jim's original question

 >>> Is Insert/Overwrite Text Mode Gone? <<<

it's been gone since PP7.
