No, it wasn't the county I was after. Quite right, there is only one 'd' [E&OE]. I hope that I spelled the name Gwyneth correctly (a woman's name). This can be bilingual as a concession due to the fact that we were starting with a Welsh place name, and that Welsh is Britain's oldest extant language. I wish I had the time to learn it.

It wasn't the county I was "after" either; I was referring to (the Welsh spelling of) the woman's name which happens to be, as you say, the name of a county. Anyway, shouldn't proper nouns be disallowed? (With 'discombobulate' the first word I wrote down was 'Dis' but I thought it didn't qualify for inclusion.)

I wasn't intending to start a controversy about which is Britain's oldest "extant" language. I read the article you suggested from Leiden. Doesn't it say that the Celtic languages for the British Isles divided into two groups, Goidelic in Ireland and British Celtic in Britain? To quote my previous thread >>Welsh is Britain's oldest extant language<< there are two words I used there, "Britain" by which I meant England, Scotland and Wales (not including Ireland), and "extant" which is defined by the OED as "still existing, surviving". Scottish Gaelic is still spoken by some, and there is an attempt to revive Cornish, but I would have thought that Welsh would probably qualify as being Britain's oldest extant language.

I'm just an Englishman. Perhaps the Welsh users of Serif products can help out here.
