Default Facebook "like", Twitter "tweet" , and Google "+1" buttons

Hi,
I tried adding facebook like button, twitter tweet button, and google plus 1 button to my website, and only twitter works.
The other two (facebook and google), when I click on them to share my website with other people, show the address of my website, but at the same time they grab description and thumbnail from bluehost.com (which is my web host.
I tried configuring google snippet to show the description and the thumbnail that I want it to show, and I put it in the head of a html fragment that I inserted, and I copied the button code in the body of the same html fragment, but it still doesn't work.
Can someone help me please?

Hi,

I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

But for Facebook, I get my like button code from here http://developers.facebook.com/docs/.../plugins/like/

Once configured to be the type of button I want, I then get the code & paste it into a html code fragment on my page.
Preview your page to see it work.

I don't use Google plus 1 but there is a forum post here that explains how to add it to your site http://forums.serif.com/showthread.p...t=google+plus1

Hope that helps.

Yes, I use the same facebook like button (with "send" button enabled), but when I click send button, it opens a overlay window and puts there a description of my hosting company instead of the description of my website. I guess it has to do something with the step 2 explained on the same page, but I don't exactly understand what I have to do.

Hi,

You don't need to use step 2 if you just want a basic like button.
If you have added the step 2 code to your site, try deleting it & seeing if it works OK.

When you click on the buttons it should bring up a facebook pop up window asking you to log in to facebook.

Yes, I tried without step 2 first. It brings up facebook popup, and it shows the link to my site, along with Bluehost.com description, instead of the description of my site. That's why I added step 2, because I thought it will fix the problem.
So, the button works, but it shows wrong description. It advertises bluehost instead of my site.

I solved it. I had to add metatags recommended by facebook, and to visit this link to clear the cache on facebook.
http://developers.facebook.com/tools/lint/

Now I need to find a way to fix google +1 button

Great, glad you solved it!

Caching - it always causes confusion!

Do a forum search for more Google Plus 1 threads as I have seen several & they should direct you in the right direction.

I'm holding off on Google Plus 1 until the dust settles as it seems it isn't quite 100% yet.

Yup, you are right. Google plus is still raw. ANyway, I tried adding: <link rel="image_src" href="link to your image" /> at the end of meta tags, and now it shows the picture I wanted. I guess this is ok...it was advised by someone from google I think...

Could someone please tell me where I should put the code that Facebook generates for a basic 'Like' button. No matter what I do, I can't see the like button on my page.

I am pulling my hair out now.

Have a look at this post in the 'workarounds' thread :-

Thanks Tom. Have changed the offending bit of code but still no joy. Am I supposed to paste this into the actual code on the actual page itself, or create a new html box and paste the code in there.

As far as I remember, try Insert HTML Code, paste to BODY and position on the page where required.

Hi Sue,

In the code you have to put http: in between the " & the //connect.. part.

It's the bit that starts like this:
js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en.....

See if that fixes it for you.
