Winamp all the way!! Winamp
I like it because of the nice plug-in's I use a remote control one with my Android Phone to control my music over Wi-Fi!

Geekery is always a plus

Media Player Classic (Home Cinema) in conjunction with a respected DirectShow codec pack (CCCP or k-Lite Mega Codec Pack)

The reason I don't use VLC is because it's a custom implementation of ffmpeg, so it's often outdated and does strange things to certain files (linked files/ordered chapters in Matroska containers, for one).

CCCP and k-Lite both use ffdshow (along with some other excellent libraries), which is widely accepted, frequently updated as ffmpeg is, and is DirectShow based, which means it works with most Windows media software pretty well. It gives Windows Media Player a new lease of life in format support, certainly.

Why then do I use MPC and not Windows Media Player, if ffdshow adds the codec support?

Well, it's not just about formats: MPC is a much more feature-comprehensive player. Windows Media Player's subtitle support is terrible, not to mention the nightmare of trying to switch multiple audio streams (except maybe from DVD). MPC is also one of the few players that gets linked files right.

It does sort of depend on what kind of watching you're doing, as to what sort of problems you may or may not encounter with certain players.

Fired up Windows and there does not appear to be any malware included in the setup file. However, it is an old version of VLC, 1.0.1.

Installed it and it matches the true version of VLC exactly. I think it's OK, although WOT made me suspicious.

Sounds good, it's wasting space on the forum.
