Default Firefox 13 Released

The "lucky" version has been released.

As usual, the update failed on my WinXP PC (possibly blocked by security software) so I had to download a complete new British version.

Although probably not essential, I un-installed version 12, and re-booted the PC before installing version 13.

It seemed to accept my extensions, plug-ins and customisations.

Oh dear: This version has a "speed-dial," copied from Opera and latterly from Google Chrome.

For some reason I installed FFX12 on my 2nd HD (Drive G

Can I install FFX13 on my first drive (C and leave FFX12 as is?

I read the FFX13 blurb on the download site, and I am frightened by the possible differences - so I'd like to have the FFX12 fall back.

And not implemented well at all.

I put mine back to a blank new tab.

Take care, Mike

I must have the "unlucky" beta version (14), I don't recall asking for it.

There's a setting that lets you choose whether upgrades are automatic or manual, and whether to go only with release versions or beta versions - I've now got mine set to manual and release, and it's still telling me that there is no upgrade yet available to 12, which is why I stated elsewhere that 13 must still be in beta (unless, of course, they haven't changed their update channels).

EDIT: Just tried again, and 13 is now on the release channel.

Reposted for a different reason.

On my laptop, running Vista:

I have installed Firefox 12, which has come up differently from the PC XP installation - the .exe copied across from the desktop download file.. I don't have the Tab Setting management options in the Tools menu - I don't mean the tab settings under Tools/Options. Toolbar Icons are minimised, and monochrome.
Anyway, it might be that the FF12 version I downloaded for my XP desktop is not designed for Vista.

Looking at the Mozilla websites, I can't see a way to download FF12, it only seems to offer FF13. My question is, are there FF12, 13 versions optimised for different Windows (XP, Vista)?

That is one question. The other, and here I seek the opinion of our knowledgeable forum, is FF13 worth installing, and importantly, because of the negative comments I have read so far, can I install FF13 separately, being able to use both versions (until I know where I am on this)?

It's never recommended you use an older version, if for no other reason than security vulnerabilities.

Wanna take a risk:
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....efox/releases/

Take care, Mike

The same Firefox download seems to have an appearance on WinXP which is different to how it looks on Vista/Win7.

I prefer the WinXP appearance.

Opera seems to react the same way: A different (more useful) appearance on WinXP.

These aspects are probably controlled by Themes, so presumably could be customised.

So far, I've only had one problem with Firefox 13: It stopped checking the spelling of forum posts - a serious problem for some of us - switching the Firefox spell-checking option OFF then ON seemed to fix that problem.

That is interesting, and may be an encouragement for me to install FF13.

However, has anyone any idea as to the possibility of having both installed?
That is, does FF13 automatically, or by insisting, overwrite FF12.

For your interest, FF13 insists on being installed in the same place as FF12 was.
I can't see much difference yet, although I had the devil of a job removing the first informational opening tab.
The add-in, the spell checker works - I've just used it, and the Ad Blocker, too.

The best I can do with the tab options I can access is to open a new tab in successive calls to links in lolcats, but in this forum, the link opens in the same tab.

I still miss the Tab Setting menu in Tools. Associated with this are a couple of icons appearing in the add-ons bar, one enabling/disabling the "open link in new tab"

A few differences from my desktop XP installation:
The refresh (reload), etc. icons are still small and monochrome. I am trying to see what happens when I install some add-on themes.
EDIT>>> Yup. Loads of Themes = skins.

Default Re: Firefox 13 Released

Since my computer (running Vista) updated to FF13, I quite regularly have Windows tell me that "Plug-in container for Firefox has stopped working". It doesn't seem to cause any problems and, if I keep working in FF, happens again later. Not so much that it causes aggro and consternation, but I do wonder why it bothers.

FF has just notified me that 13.0.1 is now available - wonder if this will make a difference?

Less lucky for some:

There's a security warning about the new "Tab Page":

The live thumbnails can show sensitive information, such a banking details.

Presumably, this is more a problem with shared PCs?

Eventually, there will be a fix.
