There's something wrong with the handset, then.

Usual question on these forums:

Have you checked for updates?

Yes it is fully updated, i do have AVG on it so maybe the hanging is due to that, i am not sure if it is necessary to have AVG or how likely it is to get an infection.

I use the free version of Lookout Security & Antivirus and have no problems. Try uninstalling AVG and installing that instead. Also check your text messages and see if you have receieved one with a delta symbol in its title - if you have, delete it and re-boot the phone. I used to get these on the HTC Desire, but haven't suffered with them on the HTC One X.

You're having a rough spin.
My Galaxy 2 with ICS runs as sweet as could be. Never a problem and really fast internet either WIFI or 3G. At this point no anti-virus so maybe that is why you are having problems?
My iPod on the other hand is very slow on wifi. Like watching paint dry.

I thought it maybe the anti-virus so i removed it, but i can still only get a signal in the house if i use GSM only, we have several phones on the same network and none of them have the same problem.

Is your phone in a case?

If so take it out and again try your coverage.

To be honest, a case should make a negligible difference, if any difference at all to a signal travelling several metres and through internal walls! Both of my HTC phones have always 'lived' in faux-leather flip cases and not displayed any wireless connectivity issues.

That was my best shot.. If the other phones are showing good strength then it sounds like a faulty phone. Can you borrow another Galaxy as a comparison. My phone is comparable with other phones I have owned.

Ali, there have been examples of metal being included in a case. It was a long shot but worth a try.
The frequencies used by phones are quite badly affected by wet foliage, metal in metal framed homes, reflections resulting in destructive interference etc etc however the fact that the other phones are working suggest it is a phone (or case-which has been shown not to be the issue) problem.
Pity he' s having problems as the Galaxy is the best phone I have owned.

My daughter has a Samsung which has had several cases, none of which has affected the phone's usage. I agree it was worth a shot, though.

I have rang T-Mobile twice about this, the first time i was told to turn data roaming off and this did nothing and today they told me it is an area fault which i dont believe because our other phones are fine.

Well i am pleased to say that every phone in my house has now developed the same error so a network error not my phone i am not sure how wide an error this is but if you are on T-Mobile-Orange and you suddenly cant get a network signal here is a fix i find works untill the network is fixed.
There is a T-Mobile-Orange network issue it is causing peoples phones to lose the network resulting in not being able to send or recieve texts and calls, there is a fix i found to work that can be used untill the network issue is fixed, go to your phone settings and change this GSM/WCDMA (Auto) to GSM Only if your phone doesnt have this setting find the setting for the G3 network and change it to G2 this may require taking the phone off Auto, please remember what settings you have changed because when the network is back up and running properly you will want to change your settings back, i hope this helps.
