Default A photo as fill??

OK. I'm messing with X5 for the first time and I drew a rectangle and opened a photo and then combined the two trying to round the corners of the photo. I seemed to have got that to work but now whenever I open a shape, the fill is the photo!

How did I do that and how do you undo it?

Cool feature but I have no idea what I did.

Thanks for any guidance.

You seem to have added the photo as a bitmap fill in the 'Swatches' studio tab and have that selected.

To undo it, select a different swatch.

In the bitmap fills, click on 'My bitmaps'. Then click on the feint down arrow near the top-right corner of the studio tab.

When you have added at least one bitmap, you can right-click on any bitmap (except the transparent one) and add another that way. Don't ask me why it's so obscure either way .

Thanks for your help. I found that "obscure" down arrow after reading all the help files which don't appear to mention it. Bizarre.

Having learned this, this is a much easier way to make a photo with rounded corners, etc.

Thanks again for your help.

If you intersect a photo with a QuickShape or a closed curve, you get a closed curve with a bitmap fill. You'll see that fill in the Fill swatch on the Colour tab or the Swatch tab. Exactly what happens next will depend on your settings, but if you deselect the bitmap-filled object and choose a different fill then your next shape will take on the new fill instead of the bitmap fill.

. . . . . but doing it that way the aspect ratio of your photo gets squished according to the aspect ratio of the shape.

I suggest you place a rectangle with rounded corners over the photo, select both and use 'Arrange' > 'Crop' > 'Crop to top object'.

Thanks. What they need is a feature like in Pageplus where you can make an picture empty frame, then inset the photo and move it around within the frame. So have an "Quickshape empty frame" that you can fill with whatever and move it around.

Thanks so much for your help.

Use 'Crop to shape', click on 'Crop' that then appears just below and you can move the photo around within the crop shape.
