I had problems with compatibility between DP8 brushes and DP9. Maybe it has perpetuated. Some would add, some wouldn't.

Oh - nearly forgot to mention - thanks for your collection of new brushes, ravels. They are great

Hmm, yes — that just shows you how long it is since I last looked at those brush files! They're in a different file format.

I think we need someone to create a DP8 document with samples of each brush. You would then be able to load that file in X4 and copy the brushes from the Document category in the usual way.

Alfred
I've created the files in DPX2 and DPX4 format, uploaded the files to YouSendIt so the files will be available until 19 Jan 2011.

There is a difference in some of the brushes when comparing the two versions side by side and the filesize differs. The X2 version is 4.1 mb whereas the X4 version is 7.1 mb. I suppose that's to be expected because they are in a different format now.

Here is the DPX2 version https://rcpt.yousendit.com/1023250581/42a9ce79558869ae42cb9ce87dbd010c

Here is the DPX4 version https://rcpt.yousendit.com/1023252241/dd8f7f81fa69e12687a17354867604b7

Hope it helps

Hi Ravs - Unfortunately, the file format changed after X2, so the method of copying and pasting them into the appdata folders is most definitely not encouraged there! However, if you make a document in DrawPlus 8 or X2 and use those brushes in it, you should be able to open that document just fine in X3 or X4 and copy the brushes into your application brushes like normal

EDIT - Darn it, I was looking at the end of Page 1 and didn't notice your question had already been answered on Page 2 - ooops!

A very astute observation, Ken! There's a little more to it though - the X4 brushes actually create and maintain high quality 'mip-map' versions of their textures so that they look better at different zoom resolutions than the X2 versions. This is the main difference in file size that you'll be experiencing

I've also zipped up the corresponding *.sbg files for DPX4 and uploaded them here: http://serif.punster.info/DP8_extra_brushes_X4.zip* (5.74 MB)

If you download the above file, unzip it and place the contents in your %AppData%\Serif\DrawPlus\11.0\Brushes folder, you should see six shiny new categories on the Brushes tab the next time you launch DPX4. The same files will also work in DSA2 if you place them in your %AppData%\Serif\Scrapbook\2.0\Brushes folder.

Maybe if we ask Matt nicely he could open a corner in DrawPlus.com where extras such as brushes could be added by the community?

Now available as installer files. Download via either of the following links and then double-click the downloaded file to unpack the brush files into the appropriate Application Data subfolder:

File Name: DP8_extra_brushes_DPX4.exe
File Size: 5.6 MB (5,861,465 bytes)

File Size: 5.6 MB (5,861,463 bytes)

I seem to have moved the focus of the thread away from its original topic. Wonderful though they are, Ravells didn't start this thread to discuss the brushes which Matt and Harry created all those years ago!

I've now uploaded DPX4 and DSA2 installer files for Rav's brushes. Download via either of the following links and then double-click the downloaded file to unpack the brush files into the appropriate Application Data subfolder:

File Name: Ravells_Brushes_DPX4.exe

Once again, these files are identical apart from the default location for unpacking.

Hi and thanks for all your help everyone. I am trying to load these DP8 brushes of Harrys into X5 but still not having much luck but I will carry on.

I have been using application Data > Serif > DrawPlus. Then I get the option.

10.0 or 12.0

I am guessing it should be 12.0. The brush folder "Dark Hair" in in the brushes folder but the folder is not showing up in the brushes tab when I restart DrawPlus.
