Exclamation Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 Patch Announcement (2.0.3)

Dear All.

Serif (Europe) Ltd. is announcing the release of a patch for Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 (build number 2.0.3.018).

The main purpose of the patch is to resolve an issue which arose in Scrapbook 2.0.2, for which we apologise.
  • Crash when printing a document that includes a clip/crop
As well as all the issues fixed in the 2.0.2 patch already announced

We would recommend that ALL users of Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 English download and install this patch. Serif recommend that patching should be done within the program, by using the "Check for update from web" option in the Help Menu. This will always get any available patch for your version of Serif software (CD or download) and install it too. The downloads page www.serif.com/downloads.asp has the patch also, which is 8.11 MB. The patch for the download DSA 2 is the same as for the CD version, but this patch is NOT suitable for the free compact version.

Helpfully the software checks for updates the first time it runs, so for those yet to install a CD, the latest patch will be found on first use.

To work out if you need this patch choose "About Digital Scrapbook Artist" in the help menu. If the version number in grey at the bottom is 2,0,2,17 or less (and you are running the English version) then you need this patch.

Technical Info:

File name: SCRAPBOOK1033_2.0.3.018_Patch-Setup.exe
Size: 8.11 MB (8,508,752 bytes)
Digital Signature: Confirmed
Sig Date/Time: ‎04 ‎June ‎2010 15:09:40
MD5: 4B47DFF4D3DF3DE62DEA3C3AE2FB3FA1
Removable: Yes

Please report any problems updating Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 in this thread.

IMPORTANT: Replacement Patch
An install problem was discovered with the above 2.0.3 patch so a replacement has been created and uploaded in its place. For reference I will leave the above information intact. The technical details for the new patch are in this post further down the thread.

Hello Sarah,

I have DSA2 2.0.1.13 (english, download version). I tried to patch via DSA, it downloaded the patch, but during install came this error: Error applying patch to file '...\SerifPhotoLabU.dll'. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch'.
Any ideas?

Best Regards,
Peter.

Does the previous 2.0.2 patch from Serif's download page install OK?

Hello Richard,

I manually downloaded the patch 2.0.2 and installed it without problems. After that, the new patch also installed OK. Thanks for your help!

Best regards,
Peter.

And I got the same error. My DSA2 is from a CD. My OS is Windows XP Pro SP3. My CPU is an AMD Athlon 3300+ processor running at about 2.6GHz.

I haven't made any attempt to upgrade my DSA2 using the newest patches 2.0.2 or 2.0.3 before. I got this error the first time trying the 2.0.3 patch that DSA2 found when I started it up.

However, I did upgrade to "SCRAPBOOK1033_2.0.1.013_Patch-Setup.exe" previously. I don't know it that would make a difference.

You can see the error message here:

I just canceled and exited the setup.

Thanks, David

Glad to hear that my lucky guess worked.

Serif will need to look at this issue next week.

Hi everyone,

We have found that there is a problem applying the 2.0.3 patch on top of the 2.0.1 patch that was not found prior to release, for which we apologise.

We are working to find the cause of the problem with the patch and release a fixed version, but in the meantime you can resolve this issue by applying the 2.0.2 patch before applying 2.0.3. If you have already applied the 2.0.3 patch, you can remove it by following these steps:

Windows XP:
1. Go to 'Add/Remove Programs'.
2. At the top of the dialog (next to the 'Sort By' dropdown) there is a checkbox labelled 'Show Updates'.
3. Put a tick in the 'Show Updates' checkbox to show installed updates alongside the application.
4. Along with the entry for DSA2 you will now see the 2.0.3 patch, click on it and then click Remove to uninstall the patch.

Windows Vista/7:
1. Go to 'Programs and Features'.
2. Along the left of the dialog there are various options (Control Panel Home, etc).
3. Select 'View installed updates'. The contents of the dialog will change.
4. Find the 2.0.3 patch for DSA2 in the list, click on it and then and click Uninstall at the top of the window to uninstall the patch.

Now apply the 2.0.2 patch from here:
http://dl.serif.com/Patches/Scrapboo...atch-Setup.exe

Then apply the 2.0.3 patch from here:
http://dl.serif.com/Patches/Scrapboo...atch-Setup.exe

A new DSA 2.0.3.18 patch has now been made and tested. It is available from the "Updates and Patches" page and on auto-update.

This replacement patch does not require you to install the 2.0.2 patch first to be succesful, and can be installed from 2.0.0.11 or 2.0.1.13 or 2.0.2.17

Sorry that the previous patch had a problem.

Technical Information:
File name: SCRAPBOOK1033_2.0.3.018_Patch-Setup.exe
Size: 8.42 MB (8,836,432 bytes)
Digital Signature: Confirmed
Sig Date/Time: ‎07 June 2010 10:32:21
MD5: D70F179CD4A418247526361ABF7C8208
Removable: Yes

If you have already patched to 2.0.2 then 2.0.3 then you do not need to reinstall this patch if you patched to 2.0.3 and had a problem with one file and chose "ignore" then you NEED to uninstall that version of the 2.0.3 patch and install this new one.

Hi Steve,

I haven't heard any such reports from any other users. In fact I use Windows 7 64-bit myself and can export as image with no problems. It takes a little while for our new builds to be registered with Microsoft so that we can get error reports from Windows 7, but I hope it should now be working.

If you could cause the crash and check in Event Viewer again, you should find a Windows Error Reporting event which has a fault bucket number in it (as per this thread, but replace PagePlus with DSA details where appropriate). If you could get me your bucket number then I will be able to download your error reports and have them investigated.

Hi Sarah, thanks for getting back to me on this,
tis much appreciated.

Reproducing the crash appears to have created 6 seperate Windows error report events,

2 with Fault bucket 1904198620,
& 4 with Fault bucket 1859682778,

Strange thing is I re-installed DSA1 & that exports images fine?
So would be great if you can help shed some light on this for me,

Thanks again in advance,

Steve.

Hi Steve, The second fault bucket you listed applies to build 2.0.1.13 which is not the latest patch. The reports haven't come through for the first bucket yet so I assume those will be the ones that apply to the new patch (2.0.3.18). I'll keep checking for those and download them when they appear.

Hi Sarah,

Don't know how Windows managed to create error events for 2 different builds
of Scrapbook within seconds of each other. But yes, you're right,
I've just checked & the first fault bucket does say build 2.0.3.18.

Thanks for persevering with this!

Steve.

Hi Steve, someone on the DaisyTrail forum had the same problem as yourself, but we've not been able to reproduce it here yet. Crash reporting was improved in the latest patch, so we might be able to retrieve some more information if we can get you to run our custom crash reporting software.

Re- Crashing trying to export:
I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit and have been having this problem from the word go,
soon as I choose export from file DSA 2 crashes , I have been sending Serif error reports for 2 months or more without any satisfactory results, never had this problem with DSA 1 that version exports ok and I use it more often than DSA 2.
But the thing is I have installed vertual machine with XP mode and installed DSA 2 on it, and it works fine the export function works in XP mode but not on windows 7 pro 64 bit, could it be a compatability issue ?.

We test on Windows 7 and I personally use Windows 7 64-bit on my machine at work and have not experienced this problem, so it's not as simple as DSA2 just not working on Windows 7. The reports are being looked into at the moment.

Didn't mean to sound formly Sarah, I over came the problem I use freestone capture if I need to export page to file, it captures the scrappage and exports it automaticly to my print file, but more often than not I print my 12" x 12" straight off DSA I use A3+ for this.
