Default Imminent release of WebPlus 12.0.2 patch

I realise that WebPlus forum is a very busy place and that many of you will be coming to the forums at the weekend for news about the promised WebPlus X4 12.0.2 patch, which is still in external beta. As such I thought it would be helpful to post this information prior to it's release, which will be repeated in the release announcement.

We would like to apologise for how long it has taken for the WebPlus X4 12.0.2 patch to be released. Much of the time has been needed in order to address many of the issues with the navigation bars discovered post release. We found we had to rewrite some of the code and redesign the creative content to address the problems discovered. As such the navigation bars are essentially redesigned, making them more reliable and adjustable.

The patch will affect navigation bars in your existing sites differently depending on whether you have used JavaScript or Flash types. When loading an existing site after the 12.0.2 patch:

- JavaScript navigation bars will not be automatically replaced with the new versions and so they will appear the same as they were before. You may wish to remove the navigation bars and add new ones to benefit from the updates in the patch, especially if you have experienced any specific problems with the previous JavaScript navigation bars you were using. Indeed we strongly recommend that you do replace them with the redesigned ones.

- Flash navigation bars will be automatically replaced with one of the new versions. Colours, fonts and separators will be preserved where possible, but otherwise the navigation bar will look visually quite different. Before publishing your site, you may wish to update the style attributes of the navigation bar or possibly choose a different style from the new list to ensure that you are happy with the appearance of the new navigation bar.

If the external testing continues to go well this patch will be released in March as promised. Thank you all very much for your patience.

Thanks for the heads up Patrick, appreciated.

Do you know if the patch will address the size of 'decorative frames' for images in x4. At the moment they seem to be approx. 1 meg each?

Regards
Bobby

Thanks Patrick for the info, so it looks like this patch is concentrating on the navbars only? Anyway looking forward to it with abated breath!

No, the changes to the flash navbars represent a change in behaviour & design and the change in the JavaScript navbars is most significant when you replace with the ones in the patch. However we have made over 50 other fixes. I did not mention them yet as, unlike the navbars, the fixes do not require any understanding from users to benefit, but the navbars do.

There will be more details of the other fixes when the patch is released.

Thank you for the patch information Patrick.

Can I ask:

1. Will navigation bars used in X4 sites that were upgraded or copied from X2 be affected?

2. Is it possible to include the X2 navigation bars in a future X4 patch please.

Thanks again.

1. Theme graphic navigation bars from WPX2 are not affected by the patch.

2. Theme graphic navigation bars from X2 are not making a comeback in this patch, or ever in WPX4 afaik.

You are welcome, sorry may not be what you wanted to know.
