Default Update Announcement (13.0.2)

Dear All,

Serif (Europe) Ltd. is announcing the release of an update for the multi-lingual DrawPlus X6 (build number 13.0.2.24).

The official announcement is on the Serif Community site.
To work out if you need this update choose "About DrawPlus" in the help menu and if the version number is 13.0.1.21 (or less) and you are running an English UK, English US, French or German version then you need this update. Helpfully the software checks for updates the first time it runs, so for those yet to install the software, any update will be found on first use, if needed.

If you are not able to run the software to get the automatically chosen patch, then all recent patches are also available to download manually from the software updates page, which will be updated soon.

Please report any problems updating DrawPlus X6 in this thread, or you may report issues on the community announcement article.

Installed and testing as I type, bet you knew I'd be the first to moan!

Got to say I'm disappointed that the Layers Tab still doesn't scroll when dragging and dropping. This is an important feature for those that create complex documents and certainly falls under being a 'bug' by being missing. It was in previous versions and the Layers Tab in all other Serif software scrolls when dragging objects. I don't for a minute think it's impossible to implement without re-writing the whole program and the suggestion it needs to wait until X7 is lame.

The same applies to a visual indication (by shortning the marker as per other Serif software?) of where a dragged object is going to be dropped in regard to grouping.

As for the rest of the bug fixes, we'll see after testing...

UPDATE

So far so good, seems much stabler. Things that used to crash it don't (eg. a lot of drag & drop in the Layers Tab). The Workspace window going black on pasting seems to have stopped as well. Spoke too soon, this is still happening, just not so often.
One thing (which is not likely to affect many) is I opened 30 documents simultaneously to save and convert them from X5 format, it all went fine...
  • Save.
  • Overwrite.
  • Close
  • Repeat.
However, once they were all closed clicking the open file button on the toolbar caused DP to hang.

I tried it with some other files and it only happens when opened 29 and 30 files, so maybe a memory handling problem?

A small change in the way the brush tool works helps to prevent a specific crash that results from doing stuff like cross hatching and shading. But the problem where you make a tiny spec that becomes an endless zig zag across the screen persists. When you're quickly drawing strokes, suddenly there are these lines that go on forever. If you zoom out, there's no end to the lines. The lines can be traced back to a single tiny stroke made by accident. Sometimes this is immediately followed by a crash. If not, the software becomes unstable and a crash is not far behind. This is still a problem.

Other problems with the brush tool also persist. Drawing slowly and carefully while zoomed out still produces a very messy stroke with many nodes regardless of smoothness setting.

There's a small change in the layers that doesn't solve the problem at all. It used to be that you could lock a layer, plus hide the layer and then continue drawing on it. Now, you can still lock it and hide it and continue drawing on it, but now the eye just pops back on when you do. Other wacky layer behavior still persists like when you turn off the layer or lock a layer, you've just made that your active layer, which is what generally sets up the scenario where you're drawing on a locked/hidden layer.

Hiding a layer or locking a layer should not make it the active layer.

All of those bugs plus many more have been around since X5.

I'm afraid I'm still getting lots of crashes while working. Also an annoying one where DP suddenly stops being able to save as it says the file is in use, but the only thing using it is DP?!! I have to exit DP and re-run it to be able to save anything again.
