I think the OP is using version 4...not X4. At least that's how I read it.

Here's an X4 file, though.

Thanks, I appreciate all the ideas trying to keep the old version alive.

PP4 didn't like the PNG file -- wouldn't accept the format.

The EPS imported with transparency, but again the pixels are blocky.

I'm out of time for today, will check the other ideas again.

Thanks for the effort! The resolution on the GIFs is fine, but no transparency when I import -- unless I'm missing some control somewhere.

Seems strange that only the EPS file is blocky pixels, and the only one that has transparency, even if no transparency in the file!

So it seems! That was the worst release ever, and I removed it before getting PP5. While I may still have it lying around somewhere, I would not consider re-installing it.

Both the GIFs I attached are transparent! It must be another defect of that PP4 if they are not transparent for you! As you will note from my other post, PP4 was a disaster! I reverted to PP3 after trying it!

Exactly so, Eric. I had forgotten that I changed it from the default black (because I was trying to view images which were black on a transparent background).

Hey MikeW -- you scored! Your WMF file imports with transparency and also seems to have good pixel resolution.

Can you describe how you made it?

And thanks to everybody who is pitching in to keep an old boat afloat.

If I get back into more publishing projects, I might consider looking into using current Serif products. What Serif products would you all recommend for a project publishing a book of 100 - 300 pages with a lot of illustrations? Or for a short children's book with illustrations on every page?

Regards,

-SB

P.S. True I don't know the difference between PagePlus 4.0 and X4 -- my version is PagePlus 4.0 .

PagePlus 4.0 was version 4. PagePlus X4 is version 14, released a decade or so after PP4.0.

SB, the wmf is vector and has no pixels. You can freely resize it without loss of clarity.

I traced your bitmap in Illustrator. One could likely do a decent trace in DrawPlus too...but I didn't try it. Once traced it is vector. So one just exports to a vector format that the receiving application accepts.

PagePlus X6 while it is still inexpensive...and available...would be a quantum jump in usability from the version you presently use.

Wow, thanks for the hard work. Gives me a much better idea on the limitations of PagePlus 4.0 and what it can and cannot handle.

Ok, sounds like people are happy with PagePlus for serious publishing projects. Thanks to all.

Here is what I do:

I import into Photopaint at 300 dpi (may have the option in PhotoPlus) ... depending on the size you need the image to be, adjust the DPI accordingly.

Next, I export the image as a PNG with transparency and place on the page.

I do this for printed work and haven't had any problems yet.

Works well for me. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll keep all these tips handy to try next time.
