Default transparency

I cut out an object from a photo and can save it with a transparent background to my computer using export as picture, saving it as a png 32 bit with the transparent button checked. It comes up in the window as being clear, My problem is when I send it to someone they do not receive it with a clear background - it has a white background? Yet if I imported the cut-out photo into a PP document it does have a clear background? Can anyone explain how I can correct this please.

Are you sending it as an email attachment, and is it zipped or unzipped? How is the recipient viewing the file?

It's quite possible that the format is being changed. On these Serif forums, large PNG images are sometimes converted to JPEG to bring them under the attachment size limit.

I recommend zipping up your PNG file to ensure that it is received intact.

Your attachment also shows a PNG file size of 61.4 MB!

Thanks very much AlfredP - I will try this. I seem to remember I had this problem a long time ago but have not encountered it for donkeys. Thank again.

I would say so. Going by the pixel dimensions in your screenshot, that glass is more than eleven inches tall!

Default Re: transparency

The compression is set to 0 (none) - fastest. Set it to 9 - smallest. It won't make much difference to the file save time, but it will greatly reduce the file size.

The attachment is the file saved at compression 9. I can't see if the background is transparent?

It's not. You need to export it at 32-bit, not 24-bit.

That attachment is a JPEG (probably because of the PNG file size, as noted earlier).

Alfred
With a bit of help from IrfanView and the PNGOUT plugin, it can be made to fit under 1 mbyte, but Facebook is only for mugs, not glasses. They will convert it back to JPG again.
