Default Vertex Snapping?

Hi,

Can somebody put me out of my misery regarding vertex snapping?

I basically have a bunch of separate triangles that I want to snap flush to each other to make a pattern.

My question is:

Is there anyway to simply snap one vertex of a shape to another vertex of another shape and have it 100% occupy the same space? I have dynamic vertex snapping on (and have tried lots of different snapping distances)and while it gets me almost a good lock, it's not perfect. I find when dragging one vertex to another that the green snapping indicator dances around fractionally instead of just locking to the given vertex. It's not like I have lots of points that are close together either - it just seems to not work very well...or am I missing something??

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I've just gone back to doing it in a 3d program for the meantime..

Cheers...

It seems to work well for me. Is there anything special about your triangles?

Thanks for the answer - I see you were using the quick shape triangles..

I was using triangles that I had made from using the line tool. I was then just pulling the various verts from each triangle into unequal lengths. Can you give it a go?

Can you give me a test file so that I know we are not comparing apples and oranges?

Here you go...If you try and pull the unconnected triangle to meet the sides of the others, hopefully you'll see that it doesn't always snap correctly...the green indicator appears in multiple places if you follow?

Maybe it's a problem that gets compounded when I snap each new triangle to a neighbour. Maybe the snapping is fractionally off each time and with that, each time I try and snap a new vert, there are multiple options for the snapping tool even though it looks right at full zoom?

Or something?!

Do you have all the other snapping options turned off, such as snap to margins?

Yup - everything off except Vertex snapping. Did you take a look? Can you see what I'm seeing?

Using DPX6 here, but I couldn't see any problem snapping the vertices of the top left red triangle.

There are some misaligned vertexes at bottom right that may be causing problems for you.

That's weird..so you get a definite 'lock' with no wibbling around when snapping the top left triangle? Yeah, sorry about that edge on the bottom right - I just threw the file together. It shouldn't be affecting anything so far away anyways though..

I have a lot of triangles in my file and I basically can't use DrawPlus to do what I want easily. I don't think it's anything that I'm doing so it's possible a bug? I wonder if anyone has a copy of v4 to test on?

Such a simple thing really - I just wanted to be able to snap each vert and forget about it but what I have instead is a snapping tool that works sometimes/mostly not and I have to keep zooming in to try and massage these points together!

In contrast, using my 3d software, I literally turn on snap to point and draw a triangle and it's snaps rock solid.. Not a fair comparison I know

Thanks for looking though - appreciate it...

No problem here in DPX6, too. I moved the red triangle from left to right. You can see the small green circle at the vertices where it snaps to the other triangle. Also helps to be zoomed in close.
