sleekdigital is well on the road to greatness

Mostly carry overs from my X6 wishlist

- A proper Mesh Fill tool that conforms to the shape it is applied to like most other implementations.

- Improved support for vector brushes. Allow the same options that are allowed for bitmap based brushes and fix rendering issues.

- Improved contour tool.

- The Roughen Tool, really needs some options. Anything in the direction of Corel Draw's distortion tool would be great.

- It would be great to have an option such that when you delete a node, DP would try its best to preserve the shape of the object. Illustrator has this option and I believe Inkscape does this by default.

- Triangle, Arc, and Spiral should be quick shapes instead of line tools.

picking between line and fill in color/swatch tabs.

One of my biggest time-wasters is clicking on the overlapping line/fill selectors at the top left of the color and swatch tabs. I have to slow way down so I'm clicking on the correct part of this overlapping icon.

I hope DPx7 will look more like PagePlus x7 (see image) I realize the difference between DP and PP might require some kind of adaptation but it is much easier for me to see if these icons are separated rather than overlapping.

After using Inkscape a little, I wish DrawPlus would adopt Inkscape's quick method for color selection.

If you left-click on a color in the palette, the color is used for the fill. If you shift-left-click, the color is used for the stroke or line.

After fussing with DP's overlapping line/fill icons, Inkscape's method is much faster and easier and less frustrating.

I'm not suggesting totally replacing the current method, only adding another, alternative option.

Xara products are a little easier yet for fills and line colors. Left click on a swatch fills, right click on a swatch sets the line color.

With version 9, it introduced yet other options when gradients are used, as well as objects are grouped (it asks which color to replace via a pop-up showing the swatches).

Yes to all.

Plus more accurate snapping to guides, without having to zoom right up.

One thing that I would very much like to see in DrawPlus is editable fills for technical type drawing. These would comprise of, say, hash lines, a honeycomb pattern, circles, chequer pattern etc. with frequency, angle (for lines), thickness (of lines) etc. settable - perhaps in a similar way to the properties of the library shapes or via a "Format" dialogue.

These would have to be able to fill either enclosed shapes from the library or custom constructed shapes.

I often do semi-technical drawings in instruction documents and colours are not always suitable for use as fills.

A "super addition" to this would be the ability of making ones own shapes as fill items.

An example of my idea for a editable hashing fill is attached.

I often need to repeat a single item or group in a regular pattern - an "array". This is usually rectangular so copy/paste regroup, repeat can be done but this is time consuming. Being able to programme by; "repeat item on x rows at p mm by y columns at r mm" would be good.

Being able to create a circular array; "repeat n items at q degrees separation on r radius" would be even better. Being able to determine whether the items remained in the original orientation or were orientated to the centre of the array (each rotated as needed) would be a cherry on the top!

Most of this is already available with the "replicate" and "transform" options in the "tools" menu.

Also the first part is very quick to do if you use blends. Copy object, move, blend. Copy blend, move, blend, done.

I would definitely vote for this!!

Well, if we're going to have any vector pattern fills, then we need a tiled grid template (preferably creatable by the user too).

Let's say we go with a honeycomb template.

Then we place our vector objects on the inside of the honeycomb walls while mirrored clone tiles appear outside of the walls. Now the logical problem is with programmatic tilings like the Penrose tile template. I don't think we could add that in for now.

However a simple brick tiling would require the user to make the tile vector object, then move (and or rotate with both functions have numeric input boxes as well) the clone copy of the template shape to make (object-relative-to-object tiles) a relative location computational function. Then the user places their tiled vector guide objects onto the vector guide shapes and off we go.

Otherwise the easiest way to go is to use Default Template Tiles, then toss your vector objects to be tiled on top of that default tiling template.

Yes, I had forgotten Replicate, I hang my head in shame there! But a circular array would still be nice.

I have used DrawPlus for many years and find it answers most of my needs for simple stuff, birthday cards, menus, programmes etc. Anything more complex and it falls down a bit. Professional graphics people I know are still disparaging about it and even I often feel that it needs to "grow up" a bit.

Then it might help to be more specific with your request. The software has a features that seem to meet your requirements with a few exceptions. It's not entirely clear what you are asking for that the software doesn't already have.
