Have you tried importing any of the other sites? Do you get the same behaviour? I have never heard of your host ...

I am still designing the other sites so, no, I have not tried importing them yet. This was the most important site to get up and running due to the nature of the site.

The others should be ready to go in about a month.

See, if mjh had said that WP is not designed as an html editor (as Foxy did), none of this would have occurred. I just wanted a simple asnwer to a simple question.

You and Foxy answered my question for the most part. I thank you for that.

You're welcome. Had you not thrown a tantrum, though, you'd have got to the crux of the issue much sooner. Try to keep a cool head next time you drop by.

Not really. I suggest you re-read the thread calmly. Nobody here deserves to be ranted at. Had you caught me on a rainy day, I would not have bothered to continue to help you. Luckily for you, it is a hot and sunny morning here. You owe the community an apology for your behaviour. There - I have said my piece. I wish you a pleasant Sunday!

Maybe someone here cannot comprehend that they've received the proper answer several times.

Perhaps you don't understand that "IMPORT SITE" only allows you to import a site, not reconstruct it. If you import your site into WPX5, you will have to change each page if you make updates. You will LOSE your master page as that is strictly a feature of the WPP file, not the files hosted on the web.

But, if you want to have a HUGE screw up while hosting your "Internation film competition" then by all means continue to ignore the assistance given here and continue to try to do things bass ackwards despite all the good information provided.

Hi,

There has been a variety of good advice posted by others in responce to your question, but fundamentally using Import is not the way to do what you want. As has been said move the .wwp file to your laptop along with all the resource files, but remember, if the resources were on a 'D' Drive on your desktop, and your laptop only has a 'C' Drive, then the paths will be incorrect - you will either need to 'replicate the 'D' drive with an external drive or edit the paths. Even if the drive letters are the same on both machines, if you are using galleries, you will most likely have to rebuild them.

Using Import is really only a way of getting non-WP sites into WP and there are usually so many issues you would be better off starting all-over.

I have tried importing WP files, but find that when you view them in WP they can be all over the place, but strangely when you preview them the seem OK (nearly), but they can be very difficult to edit within WP.

The dropbox approach is good, but make sure the sync has completed before doing any other action.

TO THE OP (Harb40)

I responded to your PM. However, DON'T PM ME AGAIN unless you understand what you are doing. I can be as nasty as you, but choose not to do so --- unless provoked.

You are now on my ignore list.

Everyone here has tried to help, no one has been anything but nice.

That was not expalined until after I went off on people. As I said, if someone had said 'import is not a feature that works properly' or 'it is not designed to do what you want', none of this would happen. As far as the PM, I was not nasty in the pm at all. I even thanked you for trying to expalin it to me.

I understand that now Rod. Thanks. What got me was all mjh had to do is start by saying 'import site is not intended for that function' and then expalin why the other oprion is better, I would have gotten it sooner. Your expaination, along with Foxy and Ali, did answer my question mostly. The help files didn't say that. in fact, the help files are what confused me the most.

I do thank those who actually helped me.

I spent some time importing the site.

It does not import the whole site initially. That is a function of the original design. Some pages do need to be imported individually. All site content is imported.

The next task is to make it manageable in terms of a WebPlus project file. That means, at minimum, recreating the navbar on a MasterPage and associating the MP with appropriate pages.

Better to keep the primary WebPlus project file available.

Thanks mjh. I fully understand now. I hope you understand my frustration though. If one of my sponsors or entrants (even my bosses at my normal day job) asked me a question and I went into all the other options first without saying why the question they posed wouldn't work, they would hound me for an answer to the original question also.

Maybe I worded my original question wrong but I got frustrated when you kept explaining the options without saying why the original question on the 'import site' problem was not designed for that purpose.

But it was designed for that purpose and it does that.... but perhaps not fulfilling your expectations.

Over the years I have imported many sites for users. They all import differently, depending on how they were built. Some take next to no time to get into WP project file form, others are more challenging.
