Hi Wes,
I have done extensive testing on Surreal CMS over the last few weeks & have found it does have issues with WP at times as found by other forum members, especially if you use the clean up code option, then reload that page from WP in the future.
I have had several emails with Surreal tech support & they confirm the way WP writes code isn't overly compatible with their product & they have had the same issue occur often with WP users.
I love Surreal's interface, but a CMS needs to be consistent.
So I then moved on to Page Lime which has the same sort of client interface & I have been rigorously testing it- so far I can't break it!
I have a client testing it also at the moment who has so far reported no problems.
Although Page Lime's interface isn't as tidy as Surreal's it does have a good option for photo editing as it allows editors to upload photos into folders to use later in their sites, it also has an image optimiser you can enable, but depends on how much freedom you want to give clients wether you would use it or not.
Although one small issue is it doesn't maintain WP created photo borders, you need to use css or a separate quick shape border if you require photo borders.
None of them can edit images inside WP galleries or lightboxes, only static images.
I think other galleries like Flickr etc would be the easiest option.
I'll be posting my final testing results in the near future.
Hope that is helpful.
