Default Noise reduction

Hi, i have noticed that noise reduction on photoplus x4 doesn't work, it has no effect at all, moving the slider all the way to the right and still no effect. Is there a fix for this, surely this isn't acceptable? thanks, jacqui.

Hi, I haven't completed a particular image, it works the same on all of the images I have tried, just barely any effect in noise reduction at all. I noticed there was another post about this somewhere as well. I used to have photoimpact 12 and the noise reduction on that was very effective, with three sliders for luminance noise, colour noise etc. but the one slider on photoplus x4 seems to have very little effect.

Hi Jacqui,

The Noise Reduction filter in PhotoPlus X4 works to reduce chroma (colour) noise, so it's likely your images are suffering more from luma (light) noise. If that's the case, you will probably benefit more from using the Median filter, although it should be used sparingly as it can soften your images a lot if used to strongly. Adding a slight Unsharp Mask afterwards could counteract this if done carefully.

This site explains the different kinds of noise quite well:

Hope that helps!

Hi, thanks, yes I have been playing about with the median filter and that is much better, if, as you say, used sparingly. Thanks for the link. As another option, does anyone know of a cheap/free plug in for noise reduction that will work with x4? thanks.
