For those of you who are in the upper British and Irish Isles, this map might be of some interest to you.

Picture taking. It's a snap!

Good photography. It's complicated.

I think that our weather girls are jealous of yours: They seem desperate to make our weather "interesting."

So, we don't have ordinary magnificent Summer thunderstorms: We have the "threat of heavy rain" and warnings about "severe weather events."

I do hope that this "event" also blows itself out without causing problems.

... and without removing the roof from the Scottish Parliament.

Well all I can tell you is that here in the Eastern part of the UK it's hot.

Does that map really show a tropical storm warning for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Sustained winds of up to 39 mph sounds like pretty normal weather for the western highlands! Hardly worthy of a special warning.

Well, the wind and rain certainly came across us on Wednesday. It passed over Belfast and North in the early morning but nothing specially out of the ordinary and by 10.30am it was dry enough to go for a walk. Of course we got rained on coming back! But it dried up well in the afternoon. If I hadn't known it was the remnants of Hurricane Bill, I would have thought it was just the usual weather for this part of the world.

I'm not a weather expert but I can confidently say that this summer has been the wettest one since last year's.
