Default Use Google Maps as a background

Hi all,

I'm trying to use Google Maps as a background on my contact page. However, all of the tutorials I come across on the internet do not seem to work.

Has anybody had any success with this, or know how to do it?

Many thanks.

Are you wanting the map to fill the browser window or just be a background to the page itself?

Ashley,

The forum will be closing today. You might want to also re-post this question on CommunityPlus, or over at FullyPixel, where many of the WebPlus experts are migrating.

Try the attached file.

You need to checke whether GoogleMaps requires you to have a key and whether using a map as a background is in accordance with terms of use.

I would just go a screenshot of the map with its markers, check for permission to use the map and then insert as a page background.

Exactly like that! Thank you.

However, when I copy the html to my own webplus file, it doesn't work. Do you know why this is?

It works if I copy it to a new WebPlus project.

Try deleting:
Code:
  onload=initialize
and change:
Code:
<!--Page Body End-->
to:
Code:
<!--Page Body End-->
<script type="text/javascript">initialize()</script>

Hmm.. I can't see <!--Page Body End-->. Is this why the map isn't loading in my file?

Within WebPlus, on your keyboard press Alt+S to see source code view . . . . . look near the bottom.

Still not working unfortunately

I'll have to rethink what I want to do with this page. Thanks anyway

I have no idea why it's not working. Both methods work here but the first method may not work if you have other things happening on page load.

Here's a slightly modified version of Naz's example. This version allows a full browser size background map without the need to disable the horizontal scroll bar. This means that your page itself will work normally.

It achieves a full background map by using 100% width and 100% height (with a min-width and min-height the size of the page) for the Div containing the iFrame, and by moving it into the main body above the main WebPlus page Div. The initial disadvantage of doing it this way was that the user could click only on those parts of the map that were outside the confines of the main WebPlus page, however that problem was easily overcome simply by adding a very small bit of code onto the end of the WebPlus page div to set its height to zero pixels. This works fine, with all the page content remaining in exactly its correct position and it allows user clicks on the map all over the whole area (apart from when it is over a specific page element of course).
