so, I'm using x6 and happy with it. It appear x7 moans (which I have been reading) are now fixed.
Should I upgrade to x7 / will my x6 website translate and import into x7 with no problems?

Yes, if you want to use some of the new features. If you're happy with your sites as they are, and don't plan any new ones, then you don't need to upgrade, or you can just upgrade and maintain the old sites with WPX6 if they work without issues, and use WPX7 for new sites.

If you open an old site in a new version, you can expect some problems. The question is, “Will it take a few hours to fix them, or many weeks of work?” That depends on your sites.

In my case, upgrading my large site from WPX5 to WPX7 took several weeks, but it was unusable in WPX5 or WPX6, while it worked OK in WPX7 even after the first patch. My smaller site was easy to upgrade — I had to change some popup rollovers to light-boxes, as I could not get them to open in the right place.

If you upgrade, I suggest:
  1. Copy your WPX6 sites to a new folder
  2. Edit the copies in WPX7
  3. Work on a small site to become familiar with the version
  4. Publish to a temporary folder
  5. Check it thoroughly in different browsers
  6. Publish it to the live site (publish all pages, not just the new pages)

Try validation in safari. Pop up gets stuck and the only way out is to force close the browser.

Thanks. I'll take your word for it: I don't have a Macintosh, and I gave up on Safari for Windows when Apple stopped developing it.

I agree with you in principle, Grant, but I obviously can't check on a Mac if I don't have one, and Safari for Windows is so far behind that it's no longer worth bothering about. Do you check your sites in IE5.5?

Alfred
