Question Runtime termination

I have repeatedly encountered a problem when trying to export and write a video project to DVD. About 30 minutes into the export-to-DVD process the following error message appears: "Program . . . ram Files (x86\Serif\MoviePlus\X6\Program\MoviePlus.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Here, briefly, is some general information about the video project I was attempting to create: it is a video inventory (made for insurance purposes) with 50 video clips shot at VGA resolution, 111 jpg images (with resolutions reduced to 96 ppi) and 38 audio-narrations generated using the MoviePlus record narration feature. When assembled with all title clips and transitions, the project is 24 minutes long.

I did contact Serif Technical Support and Alastair McDonald suggested that I try exporting to a disc image (.iso) file and then try burning this file to DVD using a separate iso burning program. I tried this, but the program failed and produced the same error message at almost exactly the same point in the export-to-.iso file process. So no .iso file was produced.

I was suspicious that the video clip (shot using a SONY NEX C3 camera) was somehow corrupted, or the transformations applied to it were somehow interfering with the export-to-DVD process, but this was not the case.

Next, I tried to export to another file format, this time I selected MV4. This worked perfectly and MPX6 produced a beautiful video in the mv4 file format which was then burned to CD. However, for the purposes of this project, and future projects, I need to use the DVD platform. I have actually had some success in exporting shorter videos to DVD, so I know the program works. But this "Runtime termination" error message now pops up whenever I try to export any of my larger, more ambitious video projects to DVD.

Are there any known fixes available for this problem?

System: eMachines model El1352G AMD Sempron 145 processor 2.80 GHz 64-bit OS Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 with 4 GB RAM. Software: MoviePlus 8.0.1.18 / check for updates indicates I have latest version of the software available.

Miks, I assume by MV4 you mean mp4. This is a progressive output so I suspect MVP may be choking on one of your video clips due to a struggle with interlacing when exporting to DVD. Have you by chance altered any of the clips advanced properties in particular the deinterlace method?

With your still images 96 ppi means little. What are the actual pixel size of your images? Although I doubt the still images are causing your problem.

Miks, a further suggestion. Try exporting a short part of the timeline in stages to see if you can narrow down the area where the problem occurs.

Eric,

Thank you for your reply. Technical assistance from Aotearoa! Wait 'til I tell my friends. Seriously, I do appreciate your reply. And yes, you are correct, I did mean mp4 (need to get better glasses for work at the computer).

JPEG images (at 96 ppi) average about 70 KB, so they are pretty small. And I agree, I don't think these are the problem. However, your suggestion about deinterlacing is intriguing. I did not intentionally change the interlacing settings of any of the video clips. But I did apply some transformations that may have resulted in properties settings changes. Will try, as you suggest, to export sections of the video project to see if I can identify where the problem(s) occurs.

Thanks for the help,
miks

Eric,

I've been working with my MVP project all morning and I was able to identify the offending video clip. (I was wrong in my earlier post that I had eliminated this possibility.) Interestingly enough, the culprit was the one (and only) video clip I shot in the vertical orientation. I never imagined that camera orientation would be a factor here. I removed this clip, reshot some JPEG images to fill the gap, repositioned all the elements downstream on the timeline and voilà, the project exported and wrote to DVD without any further problems.

Thanks again for your assistance.

It shouldn't be. But presumably you did something to it such as crop which may have caused problems.

Another tip - on a couple of occasions over the years I have found a clip not behaving as it should. Deleting the clip from the timeline (with rippling off so as to keep its space), saving the project, then closing and reopening MVP, then freshly introducing the clip to the timeline and applying my adjustments effects etc, has always solved the problem.
