Default Samsung galaxy 3 help

Hi all i know some of you on here use androide phones so hopefully someone will know how to solve my problem so here goes.
So i have my new and first android phone the Samsung galaxy 3, i have worked out how to add apps to the lock screen but i am using secure lock and pin along with with swipe lock, my problem is if i try and access any of the apps for instance the music app on my locked screen i am still prompted to enter the pin before it will let me, does anyone know if there is a work around.

Which version of Android?

I have a little app called 'NoLock' - when activated, it stops the screen locking. I keep the widget on my main phone screen.

I think it is called ice cream, it is the latest i only got the phone two days ago and i am struggling a bit with a few things including receiving emails and going to the email on the phone just to see the email instantly dissapearbefore i have time to open it, although this only happens on my pop email account not on my imap accounts.

If I am reading you correctly - you want an app to open from the 'lock' screen without requiring the pin?

If so, not possible. The lock screen apps are shortcuts to an app to open immediately after unlock.
If this was not the case then why have a pin? - as the phone would be open on closing the app.

It's called Ice Cream Sandwich!

Regarding the E-mail issue: if you have your computer running and have Outlook (or similar) downloading the E-mails and then removing them from the server, you won't be able to read them online. Possible solutions:
  1. Switch off the computer.
  2. Close the E-mail client on the computer.
  3. Change the account settings in the E-mail client to leave a copy of the E-mail on the server.

You're quick today - in the process of writing the same response.

To add to your third option - I set my pop account in Outlook to 'leave a copy of the E-mail on the server' and additionally remove from server after 14 days.
On my Android devices I always access as imap and not pop.

Thanks to both of you, although my email client is set to leave a copy on the server, i really dont see any point in adding an app short cut to the lock screen if you have to unlock the screen to access it, i know you would have to be careful what app you put there but i simply want to be able to change songs or playlists time i am listening to the music when i am out and about, my Iphone 4 s did this perfectly fine.

ICS on my HTC One X can't manage to set up the connection to my BT Internet (Yahoo) E-mail account itself, so I use the Yahoo Mail app, which I find great. GoogleMail (GMail) has its own interface, too. Can't say I really understand the difference between POP and IMAP, although if things didn't work at all, I'd soon get stuck in and find out!

Those widgets are easy to add. ICS has some of its own and there are many good third-party ones you can download.

Another problem with email is i have to keep changing the font colour, to view the text from emails from here i have to put it on white and for one client i have i have to change it to black
I can add short cuts to apps to the lock screen but i cant access them without having to unlock the screen so really it is useless to add them to the lock screen.

Over simplified: POP (Post Office Protocol) accesses email (mailboxes) on your computer having accessed and downloaded from your mail server. (Generally deleting downloaded emails from the remote server)
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) allows two way communication with your remote email server. (Generally leaving emails on the remote server)

If you are accessing your email by more than one device - either all your devices should use IMAP - or - one should use POP (with delayed delete) and the others IMAP.
The POP access device will therefore keep a copy of all incoming emails locally in the inbox.

- Do you like your HTC?

- Is the large screen useful?

I love it! I had an HTC Desire previously and liked that, too, but the One X is special. I don't know of any WiFi glitch - I certainly haven't experienced one. The screen is much clearer outside than any other smart phone I've seen.

After another hour on a crackly phone line to some distant country... where their PCs don't work: (Why do phone companies have such poor phone lines??)

Apparently they were offering the HTC 1V, rather than the "S" or "X."

I'd not researched the "V" (of course ), but although it is a simpler model, it should be OK.

I bought my present phone & contract in 2002. In that time, I've probably bought more replacement batteries than made phone calls.

I'm hoping to use this new phone - via WiFi - to check websites etc. I'm also interested in some apps: I've heard that one app. (actually for the iPhone, but there seem to be Android versions) converts the phone/camera into a fancy magnifying device.

Quite possible - I have an app that converts the camera into a heart rate monitor!!! AND it works.

Looks to me like the One V is much smaller.

I don't get that with ICS at all.
