Default Simple CMS functionality

Hi everyone

I know that CMS is an ever reoccuring subject on the forums - especially as the SWR cms is so poor!

I've come across a product called unify;

http://unify.unitinteractive.com/

This sounds like a great solution to give clients limited editing access to portions of static WP designed pages.

Has anyone used unify or a similar product to achieve limited cms functionality?

Cheers

Paul

I haven't used it, but it seems to be a sort of self-hosted version of Cushy CMS. Personally, I think it's a bit expensive as it charges per site

Webdesignerforum seems to give at a thumbs up.

Hi,

Cushy has a free version for up to about 5 sites & doesn't require any files to be hosted on your server.

Sounds like they work in a similar way by adding a class to the objects to be edited.

I haven't tried unitinteractive, but there are also others mentioned on the forum in the past, I think on is called Nakid & can't recall the other sorry.

Thanks guys - I've looked at cushy before; cant remember why I discounted it lol.

I use the SWR news thingy quite alot and its great to give clients small areas to edit and amend. I just wish that serif would add a browse button. I've been looking at a way for clients to upload small files to a specific folder on their server to make image referencing easier for them but I've run into all sorts of problem with the php script to do this (i have another thread floating around about that).

Cheers

If you're happy for the client to upload to a folder and have the contents displayed in an iframe, there's an easy way to do it.

Using MSWord or Open Office or similar, they can create their page, and then save it to their computer as an HTML page. They simply then upload to whatever folder you've set up and it is displayed/updated immediately.

Hey Steve

I've used similar methods before - I was looking into an easier way for them to upload files without confusing them with complete ftp programs such as filezilla.

I've also tried designing pages with iframed pages within them that are stored on specfic folders on the clients folder. These iframes are then editable by the client using the free webplus SE software. Works but again still a bit clunky.

My quest for cms continues lol........

Try a search of the forum for Pulse CMS. It requires php on the server, but is very easy to install and use.

There's a tutorial on my blog (link in sig).

Have a look at Sitefinity from Telerik. The full product is expensive, but there is a community edition.

ive also used pagelime.com on a couple of mine, pretty simple and free but there is an upgraded version as well. To edit you go to there website and there is always a backup so if the client does something wrong they can revert back to there old version.
