Default S.M.A.R.T. virus

has anyone else been bitten with this virus? what did you do to erase it?
googling the problem there appear to be many options (with $ cost)to deal with it which lead me to think it is all part of the scam.
there are a few videos on youtube dealing with it, most include no audio and not much use to me.

Good luck,

thanks for pointing me towards this Mike. It referred to a bunch of stuff which I had already seen, but gave me confidence I was on right track. Over the past few days (when time available) I have been watching videos on youTube by Britec09, reading all the stuff connected to his description on youTube and the stuff included in the link you posted.

Couldn't get to work on infected computer until this morning, about 7am. After several attempts and re-boots I almost had it...I felt something was still not right but I was able to see all my files and able to log onto internet. When I did Internet Explorer opened when normally Firefox opens as default browser.

I made it all the way here to this thread on Serif Forums and logged on to post a message when Firefox crashed and things started blinking, just like it did when this all started. So I know I am back to square one. Well, not quite that far back as I have learned a few things.

Whoever is behind this are some very nasty people. My weekend is shot.

This happened to me just last week. It is extremely alarming at first. I was able to remove several instances of it and then in the control panel roll back to a save point a few days earlier.
Reinforces the need to backup your work to a flash drive on a very regular basis.
