Default PhotoPlus Organizer Update Announcement (1.0.4)

Dear All.

Serif (Europe) Ltd. is announcing the release of an update for the English language PhotoPlus Organizer (build number 1.0.4.21).

The main purpose of the build is to resolve issues discovered since the master of PhotoPlus Organizer 1.0.2 for which we apologise. As well as a number of minor fixes, this update addresses the following major issues. Many are phrased in the negative from our database but are nevertheless fixed.
  • Fix for Google Maps error message when using Map Mode
  • Fix to send all required information in error reports
  • Fix for filename sort being case-dependent
  • Ctrl+mousewheel scroll now zooms image thumbnails
  • Folder locations can now be pasted into browse for folder dialogs
  • Fix to accept metadata changes when selecting a different image
  • All issues reported as fixed in the PhotoPlus 15.0.1 update announced here
Note: PhotoPlus Organizer is a feature of the PhotoPlus X5 install which means that the update refers to PhotoPlus X5 throughout. Regardless, this update only includes new changes for PhotoPlus Organizer and existing changes from the PhotoPlus 15.0.1 update.

We would recommend that ALL users of English Organizer download and install this file. Serif recommend that updating should be done within the program, by using the "Check for update from web" option in the Help Menu. This will always get any available update for your version of Serif software (DVD or download) and install it too. The downloads page www.serif.com/downloads.asp has the file also, which is 3.32 MB.

To work out if you need this update choose "About Organizer" in the help menu, if the version number is 1.0.2.19 or less and you are running the English version then you need this update. Helpfully the software checks for updates the first time it runs, so for those yet to install a CD, the latest update will be found on first use if needed.

Technical Info:

File name: PhotoPlus_X5_15.0.1.11a_Patch-Setup.exe
Size: 3.32 MB (3,491,152 bytes)
Digital Signature: Confirmed
Sig Date/Time: 17 February 2012 13:52:45
MD5: 433A0824C4A66C5C5E208E8C612DB26F
Removable: Yes.

Please report any problems updating Organizer in this thread. Create new threads for any issues using the software.

Some time ago I reported a problem with the Organizer process continuing to run with very high cpu usage after closing the program. I was told the problem would be corrected in the next update. It has not been corrected in this update.

When will it be corrected? - on my dual core desktop it takes up the cpu of one core. On my laptop with a single core it takes up the complete resource!!

I'd like to check who processed your request so I can clarify the response they gave, as this hasn't been reported internally as far as I can tell. Did you report this over the phone or via a support ticket? I can't find any call logs against your account that relate to this issue, nor any support tickets matching the email address in your forum profile.

This problem was highlighted in an email sent directly to Technical Support on 3 December 11 using an alternative email address

Your reference is

[3B5-166C870F-113D] Organizer high CPU usage.

The reply came from Oliver Common on 4 Dec.

(I did not follow up items 1 & 3 in that email for reasons I will not elaborate here)

I've chased this up and I'm afraid there must have been some crossed wires somewhere. There isn't anything in the fix list for this update to resolve the symptoms you're experiencing. Please accept our apologies for this mix-up.

I'd recommend you contact Technical Support again and ask them to investigate your problem further so we can try to find out what might be causing it.

Thank you for your reply, however, as QA manager I assume you will also raise the issue with Technical Support as it does not appear to be an isolated issue and therefore affects the quality of the product.

I received helped from Tech Support that solved my problem. Teh resetting to defaults as outlined below totally fixed my issue. That I should pass this along:

"I would recommend resetting the program back to factory defaults, I have included the steps below to follow:

With the program closed:

1, Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard
2, While holding down then above key double click your program icon
3, Check the box and click Yes

If this fails to correct the issue you are having a would also try fully removing the program from your computer and then reinstall, please backup your photos to another location on your computer to make sure nothing is deleted by mistake. You may want to download free program called Revo uinstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html run this to remove the program as it will also scan your computer for any left over files to also delete.

If I can provide any further assistance regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact me by either replying to this email, or by calling us on 603 886 6642.

Thanks,

This issue does not affect all users and we have not been able to reproduce it internally. As such, Technical Support will need access to more information about your PC and your usage of PhotoPlus Organizer so that we can try to diagnose what the cause might be, otherwise we have nothing tangible to base any further investigation on.

I can ask Technical Support to contact you if that will be easier.

Back to the drawing board. I thought my problem was solved. I was wrong - after doing some editing and arranging of tags problem returned. I am trying to figure out if there is consistency to what makes it happen. So far I have not found the link. I do also have AlbumPLUS X4 installed - I have not tried uninstalling that yet but I am considering it.

Seems you experienced the same problem that I did!
Spent a number of hours over weekend trying to pin it down and came to the conclusion that manipulation of tags is the problem. Now in hands of Tech Support with a summary of my efforts.

I believe I have found a way to repeatedly make it fail. It seems to be associated with the tags and hierarchy. If I leave the hierarchy intact from the initial import it works fine. If I drag tags to create a single level of hierarchy it works fine. But when I drag & create second level of hierarchy the problem occurs. see attached graphic.

So far I can't reproduce with these conditions either. How many photos were affected by the changes you made when you added the second level of tags?

I can't say for sure. But I would say in the neighborhood of 200-300.

My test set was much smaller. I'll try more images and see if I can reproduce.

Thanks Sarah. I can tell for sure how many photos it involved this evening when I get home. I am central USA.

After checking the number of phots is closer to 450.

This update does not appear to have addressed the problem with continued high cpu usage after closing the app, reported to Support in March. When will it be fixed!!

In which case still waiting for a solution.

Smile Re: PhotoPlus Organizer Update Announcement (1.0.4)

I too have the problem wherein Organizer will not shut down. The window closes but the process stays there running 13% CPU on an i7 running windows 7 64 bit. It is similar wherein it started after I shuffled and renamed some tags. I have 9,142 photos. I am using the same CPU as a previous user experiencing the same problem

My problem is now with tech support and I feel confident that they will solve it.
