WebPlus X5: gradient transparency

I have a photo which I am using as a banner. I want a portion of the image to gradually fade to a black area in which I can insert text.

I cannot find how to do that when editing the image in PhotoPlus or PhotoLab.

Any suggestions or instructions?

There's no need to resort to either PhotoPlus or PhotoLab for this. Select the photo, choose the Transparency Tool 'wineglass' and drag across the photo to apply a gradient transparency. Place a text frame on top of the photo, set its fill to black, send it behind the photo and type your text in white or any pale colour of your choice.
