PhotoPlus X4: Layers confussed

Scanned in a family photo for reprinting, on one side there was a bit of fading so I drew round it and used the Curves tool to fix

I had to do the same on some of the face's and touch in clone in a few water spots and the like

I noticed that the first layer / fix that I done had returned to unfixed, I returned to "that" layer looked at the curve adjustment which was back to a straight line, not wanting to lose what I had done, I just exported the file as jpeg and saved as spp to try and fix later.
When I checked, unchecked the eye of that layer nothing happen

AlfredP might remember me having some what similar with "PagePlus X3 (wee project)"

Would the two be tied, or would it be that I didn't merge layers?

If you export a photo with layers, you need to save as a spp file, Saving as a jpg should only be done when you have merged the layers because jpg's do not save layer data (I think).
