Default Installing Serif on a notebook

Hi Guys,

I'm sure I'm not the only one wanting to install Pageplus X5 onto a notebook, but as I got it on DVD, it presents me with a problem, no DVD drive on the notebook.

I may be missing the obvious, but has anyone found a way round this?

Phil.

Hi Phil,

If you have a USB thumb drive, you can copy all of the files on the DVD to that thumb drive, and then install from your thumb drive.

You can also setup file sharing between your main computer and the laptop.

Otherwise, you can purchase an external CD/DVD writer. That is most convenient and fastest.

Is notebook s/w different from laptop s/w in this respect?

At this moment my laptop is not finding the CD drive (i.e. it is faulty). Could I install from a memory stick, would the laptop s/w allow this?
I could then treat the laptop as a sort of notebook.

I was thinking mainly about the sort of application that needs a cd/dvd in a drive to install (at least in a desktop).

It would have to be a USB interface.

I will be taking the laptop back to the shop after my holiday - specifically for which I bought the machine! As it happens, I have loaded all the s/w I need for the holiday, so I am not too put out - at the moment.

External CD/DVD drives usually are USB, Jack. I have a 3.5" floppy drive and a ZIP 100 drive that attach to my laptop, both are USB. I shall get an external DVD drive for my daughter's notebook later this year, but it will have to be pink, of course.

basically I think with a notebook / netbook one either buyes a seperate USB dvd / cd drive, or copies the dvd / cd onto a USB flash drive / memory stick using a standard computer and then copies it to the hard drive of the notebook and install from there - (I've never tried installing directly from a memory stick - may work fine)

** edit ** I see Brian answered while I was typing ** end edit **

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies, yes I guessed I was missing the obvious..... I was thinking of copying the installed files from my desktop... never a certain thing, but as BrianE said 'copy the files from the DVD to a USB thumb drive', or memory stick.

That's the difference, tried and it has worked perfectly, a case of not seeing the wood for the trees.

DOH!

Andy H and jacksjacobs, I used a standard 4Gb USB memory stick, works fine.

Thanks again guys,

Phil.
