Question Different acro readers versions

I don't have a problem, this is really a request for enlightenment.
When I publish as a pdf the menu against compatibility lists acrobat 4, 5, 6, PDF/X-1, PDF/X-1a, and shows 5 by default.
If I convert using 4, 5, or 6 I get logos, clipart etc as negatives. /X-1 and /X1-a work ok. But it used to convert ok using the default one shown, v5. I have reader v8 on my machine.
Is the above 'normal' behaviour, i.e. v4,5 and 6 don't work?
Can I set the drop down box to show PDF/X-1 by default on start-up?
Can PDF/X-1 be read by any version of acrobat reader?
Does Acrobat v9 work with PPX3?

I'm running Vista 32bit - but I don't think this is an issue.

Acrobat paid for and Reader are now at version 9.3.1 and I'd recommend upgrading. No problem here with PPX4.

The Publish as PDF should rember the last used setting.

Thanks for answering.
I'll keep an eye on the menu to see if it remembers last setting.

Since posting I've track the negative image problem down to one ppp file. So I can spend many happy hours investigating that file.

The PP to PDF conversion is presumably independent of what reader you actually have on your system. I've looked at the file using PDF-viewer and still get the negative logos.

I've considered reader v9 but am wary of backswards compatibility problem.

I've spent my happy hours investigating.
I've cured the problem by copying and pasting the logos from PP into PhP and then, without doing anything to the images, copying and pasting them from PhP back into PP.
The pdf conversion now works correctly.
Life is full of mysteries - so onwards and upwards
