MoviePlus Starter Edition: Showing a static image prior to start of movie

I downloaded the Starter Edition, and like it. I've navigated the work area and looked over the various functionality of basic tools and understand what works and what I can't use (like the pinked-out burn to DVD functions etc.)and was surprised to learn I could actually import a .MOV file as opposed to having a converted file like an AVI (which I assumed I had to do, prior to using this freeware). My question though, regards the displaying of an actual image or drawing I created....and want to have that appear at beginning of video for say, 5 or 8 seconds with some explanatory text and then fade to video which will only be 3 to 5 minutes of the actual creation of that same image. I want to produce short tutorial or self-explanatory clips I have created which I want to enhance by showing a "static" image at beginning and/or end of each video.
Do I go to:
#1. IMPORT MEDIA and then #2. IMPORT>ADD MEDIA and can a static image be displayed into the Timeline and then I can paste my .MOV file in after?

In essence, can static images be placed this way> The image in question would be a high resolution JPEG at 1000 pixels wide. So basically, this is why I am asking about posting a static image inside the Timelien to the edit by fading from image into beginning of my video.

I have grasped the software to a degree, but wanted to ask here to help answer my befuddlement - haha. Thanks

Every time I load up Movieplus x5 it crashes within a few minutes. When I import media and view it in the 'trim' window the video plays for a short period of time before turning black and Movieplus crashes. This is also true of dragging it down to video track and watching it there. You can still hear some audio. This happens for all my videos. This particular video is 2min 53 sec, 245 mb, 1280x720, 59fps, data rate 11716kbps. My laptop is a Novatech infinity ultrabook. Core i5, 8gb ram. Windows 7 64 bit. No other programs are running. How can I fix this? The program is pointless at the moment as it crashes instantly.

MoviePlus X6: Using MoviePlus For Wedding Videography

I am a professional videographer. To date, I have two authoring tools and my primary tool has been Pegasys TMPGEnc Authoring 5. My want is to move to MoviePlus as my primary tool. So I decided to try it out for the wedding I shot this past Fri night.

When I shoot weddings, I get many little files to put together - for a full wedding it is generally 150 to 225 files.

I have two 'nits' for the actual composition and editing process.

1. I want the scenes to move smoothly without transitions. I have noticed that sometimes, if they are adjacent with two matching arrows, it is smooth; other times it is jerky and I have to move the clip slightly left until the arrows disappear.
2. I sure wish there was an option which left the playback cursor at the end of the clip instead of it going back to where I started.

The biggest issue I am having that is stopping me from migrating to this product is the menu builder.

1. It seems to be a separate subsystem/product and not integrated into movieplus.
2. Some of the items are in options menus and not the main User Interface (UI). For example, I need to insert my own pictures as backgrounds on each menu.
3. There is no connection between the menu builder and movieplus in terms of data exchange. So it will not take the names of my chapter points and move them into the menu as menu selections. So I have to retype each menu item.
4. There is now introductory wizard that allows me to provide the overall design for the menus - in my case, I would like to specify, no thumbnails and 8 items per page. I would also like to specify here the font information for my title and the font information for each menu item.
5. The setting in one menu don't seem to propagate into the others even when I say 'apply to all' - so I have to redo my fonts setting for titles and chapters on each page.
6. I would like to be able to drag over a series of chapters and do various alignments (top, center, botton, left, right). Or even have it distribute the spacing equally among the various chapters.
7. I did not see a way to specify a highlighted color for when the remote moves to the menu item (for example I use yellow menu items and a green highlighted color).
8. My biggest issue (which is currently a show stopper though I may have missed a way to do this), are the links for the remote - I need the flexibility to manually design for each menu item, it's behavior for all four remote button directions.

These are all things I am used to and can do very easily in TMPGenc Authoring.

MoviePlus X6: Import .gif files

When I import .gif files, I get the "broken" icon in the Media Pane and a message about an undefined codec when I select it. The Help response is to click the "Find Codec" icon - which looks for a Corel DVD MovieFactory application - which I do not have. It then says "No codec was found to decode the audio or video in the file."

I can import the file into Ph6 and break it down into individual frames in the Animations tool, but none of the export formats are video. The best I can do at this time is to export each frame as an individual jpeg, then import the jpegs into Mv6 and use the minimum duration; this gives a slightly "slow-motion" effect to the animation, and I am stuck with the total duration of all the images - which is, say, 6 seconds. I would like the full animation to show in 1 second (for example).

Is there another way to import and convert a .gif file to .avi or other compatible format for use in Mv6 without having to purchase a competing product? (Or is a codec decoder available for free download?)

I would like to use some of the .gif animations that I purchased from Serif as overlays in a video without having to break them down into individual frames (unless that is the only viable solution), and I would like to control the duration of the animation to any length desired.

My children have requested a TV slideshow playable from a domestic DVD player to view the hundreds of .ppp files of our family pictures and stories, generated in PagePlusX4.

Each has an associated pdf file and all are in landscape mode, and many are multipage.

The sensible way to do this would be to use MoviePlus - but it won't, of course, accept pdf or ppp files (would that be a good idea for the future?). PagePlus will generate a slide show from pdfs but this can only be read on a PC via a pdf reader such as Acrobat Reader.

Can anyone suggest how to do this without having to generate hundreds of image files (one for each page in multipage items - a lot of work) and which may raise resolution/artefact issues in the TV display.

I have searched the web for an answer without success.

I have PagePlusX4 and PagePlusX5 and MoviePlusX5 and an unused copy of WebPlusX4.

OF course - it's common to incorporate pictures i.e. still shots into a project.

I am using paintings, drawings, and pictures - many right off the internet - that are in the public domain.

As you may know - there was a court ruling (I think it was "Corel" case)that deemed pictures made of works of art - etc - that are already in the public domain - are not covered by copyright if there has been no material change or in otherwords, "slavish" reproductions of pictures and works of art - in public domain - have no copyright. So - it's easy to look up old paintings etc - that someone has taken a picture of and posted on the internet - and film it with my camcorder, and use it in a project. I know it's not film - but for some reason I call it that anyways.

So if I "film" a picture right off of my computer screen am I correct in assuming the resolutin will be whatever resolution I have my camcorder set to?

What if I simply save the image straight off the internet website to my computer - and then import it into Moviemaker? When you are saving it - it usually tells you what the resolution is - which is always lower than the High Def I film in - 1080 by 1490.

Will either way of doing this create a problem using pictures or video footage generated this way in my project? I.e. - all of the footage I shot with my camcorder is hdef pf30 1080 by 1490.

I would assume the better way is to simply film the picture off of the internet website using my camcorder - as that way the resolution will match the rest of my project?

Thanks for any help!

MoviePlus X6: No need to shoot for more than a few seconds when making static shot?

I have a funny habit filming objects. OK - I know it's not film but for some reason I am compelled to call it that.

Even though I may only intend to us a static shot - no movement - of the object I am shooting, I put my camcorder on tripod and let the camcorder run for 60 seconds or more. I guess- I really don't need to do that. I guess - if all someone intends is a static shot with nothing moving -you only need to film it for a second or two and then you can just use the camera icon thingy (save or copy frame) and then just stretch it out - right?

For some reason - I just can't get myself to do it like that. I.e. - I will let the camera run for 60 seconds or more - instead of just a few seconds. So I use up more tape and time.

How do you do it?

Am I right - that I should just take a shot for a couple of seconds? What do you advise?

Thanks for any answers!

I think that makes the project look unprofessional.
